I think we can tone down the long and far too often night cycle and pitch black areas.

They did @james32401. If you have trouble seeing at night, night vision does help a lot. In fact I know players who use night vision all the time to see.

Yes, I always use it when "dusk" arrives... Pretty lame, IMO

Yeah I have the Night Vision. Though I wish there was an option where the night vision was more like an enhanced Day Light instead of the green....

Oh this thread brings back fond memories of past passionate discussions on this topic dating back to the earliest releases.

One fraction said it was too dark, the other fraction said it wasn't dark enough. What a surprise!

I personally don't enjoy running around in the dark. So I have my settings on maximum brightness and now I am one of those who use Night Vision a lot. I often forget to keep an eye on the time of day, and when it wears off I am blinded by the sudden midday beauty of whatever scene I am in.

I would just add that night time is already artificially short. Dawn and dusk were extended and both cut into what would normally be night time by about 2 1/2 minutes on either end. So where night time would normally last 20 minutes. it's only about 15.

In addition to night vision, there's light and there's torches. The spells cost pretty effectively nothing. Torches are easily found laying about or in loot.

I would be on the "not dark enough"... for me, night is very bright for some reason... :D

Light was the first spell I learned. And you're right. Torches are like arrows almost. You find them on everyone.

Personally, I love the darkness, love when you see absolutely nothing in some places of the fall if they are out of your light spell range. *BUT* we could have a light-like spell with greater radius. While I aprecciate the "sense",imersion of being in a dark place, for convenience being able to see would be better.
I refuse to use night vision because it looks kinda ugly (or the game looks pretier without it, if you prefer that way), but when you have to choose between game advantage or beauty, you have a design problem, why would you let your players get into to such a dilema?

I was in the Spectral Mines today, no crystals to lighten the area up ... and I'm one of those who dislike playing in a dark scene.
I had a bag full of torches dropped by the skeletons along the way, and wished we could do something more with them other then view them as clutter,
like being able to light and stick them in the darker corners of the cave brightening the area up a bit.

I'd settle for just greyscale, had enough green night vision in the Army.

This would also have an adverse affect on the moon magic tree wouldn't it?

While I agree it would be cool to light them and leave them.. is there some reason why you can't hold them? Or turn on the lanterns all around the mine?

I stopped using the light spell because it was always blocking my view.. when using the default camera position no less.. maybe they can just remove the glowing ball completely so it doesn't happen.

Night vision is cool but a color option would be great.

As far as too dark or day/night timeframe I would prefer more darkness if the above changes were made, and am happy with how often it switches from day to night. It helped to have it be so fast for the player hosted screenshot contest that we had during launch.

I think the night cycle is perfect as it is.

I think we can tone down the flogging of dead horses.

I think the night is too short, and wish they would undo the artificial shortening... And I'm a Sun caster...

Try turning off shadows in your video settings, for a start. Also, if your display has brightness and contrast settings, try turning both of those up a little.

Also, try becoming a fire mage, there's nothing better than setting your enemies on fire to see where you are going.
