We have upgraded our version of Unity to the latest version (2018) and we need your help to do some compatibility testing on a VERY early version of Release 54. For this compatibility testing we are really just looking for confirmation on whether the game still runs on your computer and still looks correct.

Please note that because we are still three weeks away from R54 going live most of the R54 items are not even in yet.

As Starr mentioned, this is a very early QA build primarily to test Unity 2018.1 compatibility and to look for any major issues that would prevent us from upgrading. The first QA build 676 is now available.

Please report all bugs in our R54 QA bug forum here:
    https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/forum/index.php?categories/release-54-qa-bug-forum.1487/

You can also provide general non-bug feedback, but once again please note that this early build is primarily for game engine testing, so feedback on performance, hitching, crashes, etc is the primary interest, and most R54 content is not in yet. https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/forum/index.php?forums/release-54-qa-feedback-forum.1484/

When we publish new QA versions, I will post in this thread so that you know there are new things to test!

Those of you new to testing on the QA Server please note the following:
    • Do not post screenshots or video outside of the QA forums (or QA on Discord) of anything from the QA server.
    • The same Rules of Conduct apply on the QA server as they do on Live.
    • The QA server is an early snapshot of the upcoming release, which means the build on that server is going to be broken and incomplete. That is why we need your help!
    • We usually copy over data (your character for example) from the Live server to the QA server, which means when you login you will see your Live character. Any changes or progress made on the QA server will NOT affect your Live server character.
    • To report bugs for QA, please use the /devbug chat command, which will link you to the appropriate QA bug forum. While the Bug button and /Bug chat command still work, they will direct you to the Live bug forums for the previous Live release.
    • (This will be done closer to R54 release) The draft of the instructions (to be posted in the R54 QA Feedback forum by Starr) you will see early on may include items that won’t actually make the release or conversely it won’t included items that will make the release. In other words the early draft of the instructions will be an early draft.

Here are instructions on how to download and install QA builds:

You can play by downloading a new SotA Launcher(QA) installer to download a separate QA copy of the game. It exists independently from the regular live version of the game and installs to a separate folder. Alternatively, after the links, there are instructions to play using Steam instead.

    Windows: https://d2sx9mrt4zumaq.cloudfront.net/Installers/SotAInstaller(QA)-1.2.0.exe

    Mac: https://d2sx9mrt4zumaq.cloudfront.net/Installers/Shroud of the Avatar - Installer(QA) 1.1.0.pkg

    Linux Package: https://d2sx9mrt4zumaq.cloudfront.net/Installers/shroud-of-the-avatar-launcher-qa_1.1.0_amd64.deb

    Linux tar.gz: https://d2sx9mrt4zumaq.cloudfront.net/Installers/shroud-of-the-avatar-launcher-qa_1.1.0.tar.gz

If you want to play through Steam:

WARNING: Playing both the normal and QA versions through Steam could use up to 7 GB+ of data download via steam each time you move back and forth between versions.

To install the QA client via Steam, follow these instructions:
    • Right click on the game in your game library
    • Go to Properties
    • Click on the tab at the top that says BETAS
    • Enter the beta access code "SotAQATesting" and hit Check Code.
    • Select "qaclient" from the dropdown menu
    • Steam will switch the install to the new branch
    • To return to playing the normal client, follow these instructions:
      • Go back to the properties beta tab and select "none - opt out of all beta programs" and it will switch you back to the normal install.

Known Issues: Quest completion has some known bugs. Primarily, completing quests that don't have rewards, but which lead to other steps, may not function as expected in build 676.

Right, sorry, forgot about that. It does not currently include Linux. There is still an input bug that is preventing us from using newer versions of Unity for Linux builds. However, Unity has said a fix is on the way, and I'm hopeful that it will be available in a patch from them before R54.

    Nightshade pass super laggy.
Also see the distorted foals as pictured above.
Low-health heartbeat audio started playing after only losing 50 HPs and zoning into Hilt with that health.
Drinking pot and teleport have same look as below.

    Game works on iMac27"
with setting on Retina 5120x2880 and setting fantastic, you get 10fps. (setting good: 12 fps). Setting 2560x1440+fantastic gives 27fps.

For Comparison: same region, with the current R53 I get 20fps on 2560x1440 fantastic

It seemed to take longer them usual to load into Tenebris Harbor. I also am experiencing the same issue as Chrystoph Reis above when drinking potions. Otherwise, everything seemed fine.

Tested for a while now... Actually the loading times for my house seems faster now. Also notices FPS increase in heavy loaded scenes, like the one bellow.

Played around for a bit tonight. FPS seems about the same. Did have a couple crashes trying to log in, and some NPCs slide around when they are supposed to be dead, but otherwise its working pretty much the same (not unexpected for Windows, I suppose).

Do these new builds have IL2CPP enabled or are they just on the new Unity without those features enabled?

They do not have IL2CPP enabled yet. Moving forward with one thing at a time so that if we have problems, we can perhaps identify them easier.
