I'm not the only one to notice the persistent gagging and heaving sounds that accompany field dressing - as well as some ambiguous hot and heavy noises mixed in - right?

Also in the arena of strange sounds, I notice a lot of creepy "mmm"s from NPCs in just about every town locale. What's going on with the citizens of Novia to carry on like this in public?

Oh this is nothing. They took out most sounds they made that were extremely irritating. The puking sounds in soltown and all the moaning and groaning in Ardoris. This little bit of display is nothing but I see to you it is.

Heh, I was not present in game for pre-release. Interesting that there was a lot more going on then than is now! :)

yes it was totally irritating and disruptive the sounds they made. My worst hated sound was the bandits grunting and irritating sounds. So glad to see most of them don't do that anymore. Our new sound person has been busy. Welcome back btw.

I understand what you're talking about, OP. I am not very fond of the groaning and such when skinning animals either! Very unusual.

When I eat Dragon Stew I occasionally make a retching sound too. I find it funny to be honest. And YES on some of the other sounds. Ardoris used to sound like an adult movie being filmed. I used to turn down the volume when I was in the square.

What really bugs me is that someone who makes a living skinning animals, or has otherwise done it literally thousands of times, is certainly not going to make those sounds. This person will not be grossed out by it in any way.

Now to be honest, this isn't something that I'd put at the top of my list (that's for things like no hideable helm/cloak, taking clothes off during deck change and having no armor, loading screen bugs, towns/NPCs sparkling blue that they have a quest but don't actually, etc.).

But the sound effect is striking enough to warrant mention as an odd bit. Perhaps the message is: may we never get too desensitized to killing and skinning every creature in sight to feed our consumeristic appetites for more wasted animal hides and unnecessary +10 leather armor craftables that won't sell because the market is already supersaturated.

In case anyone's missing this, I found a good replacement: trip a kobold brawler in K'rul, close your eyes, and relax! Bonus points if you "finish" him while they're on the ground.

EDIT: I was melee at the time. Not sure if it happens as ranged

I’ve wondered about the gagging noises too. Please tell me what skilllevel I need to reach to stop them! I will go to 120 if needs be but it‘s so annoying...

You need to get to level 201* to get them to stop.

I keep my volume low in most cases, so when I'm skinning something I often confuse the sounds with a bandit or other mob becoming alert to my presence. So I could do without it.

This land is "Plague" riddled, with undead and foul meats, and butchered animals routing in the sun... It's what happens when there's no refrigeration... Warm ale too, ugh... Flies, you name it, pestilence everywhere... j/k

Apparently the worst part of Ardoris was that some sounds didn't have 3D location information, so you heard them everywhere. ALL of them everywhere, at the same time. I would log on in the oracle conformatory and it sounded like an orgy. Mmm, mmm, aaaah, mmm, ahhhh...

And on the topic of pre-release sounds, early on (I started in R20), they didn't have very many mob sounds. One they did have was a small dog barking and growling, which was not only used for wolves, but also for spiders and slimes.

I don't mind the sounds my char makes when skinning. It fits, it just needs to be not as often, or toned down a tad.... JMHO..... i really would gag if i was skinning an animal, no matter how often I have done it, it surely must smell really bad ....

I haven't even heard these sounds yet, but I am not sure why field dressing would make gagging noises to begin with. Tanners and butchers and whatnot don't gag non stop here on Earth, is there something different about Novian animals?

Yeah, those sounds are very strange. Took me a while to realize what it is suposed to be, at first I thought those sounds stem from a nearby animal, a llama or something. o_O
I hope they drop that, it doesn't make sense. Funny thought, imagining all butchers making disgusted noises all the time.
