and wine is significantly easier to grow for, since you only need a single type of crop

Decanted my first batch of wine tonight and drank a bunch of it. Booo! You can only seem to get about 3 levels of intoxication. I get much more intoxicated after 10 glasses of wine in real life. Particularly when it's 10 glasses in 15 seconds.

A matured keg has a date of it's maturity.
Does not this make a rare?

For RP/ Colectors purposes if the date is significant. I've got 3 cask of R55 postmorteum/ LB Birthday 25y whiskey. I'm gona be hard pressed to part with them though ;)

I also can't part with a 25 yo whiskey for 50g a pop. It's going to take a YEAR to come to maturity. Based on everyones theory of 4gp or so for wine or beer, I just have to make 15 casks which mature in 3 days for the same profit.

Lets think about that. 3 days versus a year.....

Well wine is 7 days mature and 6g sell, plus the production chain is quite a bit more straight forward.

Oh and when i said 25-50g ea, i meant each unit in the cask, there's 40 in there total, at even 25g a pop, that would put the face value of a cask at 1000g, 800g after you account for vendor markdown. we'll just have to see when the 2y and 7y's start popping to figure out what kind of potential whiskey has. I Haven't been disappointed yet though.

Chris said in the Livestream that a profit was intentional, due to the time investment. Whether or not he considered that anybody might try it on a massive scale was not mentioned...

I'm sure they knew. They seemed happy that some of us are stockpiling large amounts in our basements.

I'm just doing a little bit for RP purposes and I'll do more when they give us buffs on it.

yeah i think it was my question he ran that off of but i didn't understand his answer. The way he worded it, he made it sound like people were selling maturing casks of 25y for a profit, not the completed brew inside. He specifically said 25y thats what had me going "uh whut? there's no way folks have completed 25y's"

People were triggering the wealth accrual auto-ban due to the amount of 25 year whiskey they were making. It factored in the resulting wealth immediately. That was my take on that response during the telethon.

So if we buy everything from vendors, how much profit we actually get per cask at this point?

Ehh there's only so far i'd go buying from vendors before it would eat into the profit point too much. i'm still not thrilled about buying water and looking for ways to offset it (looking like i'm gonna run wine for main profit and beer to cover wine expenses)

There's a lot of "everything" you can buy right off. All the new brewing crops cost 4gp ea, though. So basically take the seed cost per cask and quadruple it. With seeds and water we were eeking out a little over 1gp per crop

And again, this is why i LOVE this brewing system. There are so many different ways to fine tune your production and trade effort for time and/or profit.

So yeah, that being said... if you buy all the things from a vendor, you break even...

    Numbers
    :
    Crops: 25 x 4g- 100g
    Yeast: 2 x 20g - 40g
    Water: 10 x 2g - 20g
    Total: 160g

    Wine however....

    Grapes : 20 x 4g- 80g
    Sugar - 10 x 4g - 40g
    Yeast- 2 x 20g - 40g
    Water - 10 x 2g- 20g
    total- 180g
    sell value- 240g
    ??PROFIT?? - 60g!!!!

Guys... you can make beer profits off wine with all vendor mats....

geezus these whiskey casks need to hurry up and mature. If the profit difference is this big between beer and wine, plus people were flagging econ bans from crafting whiskey...

    *waves to Lhama*

I'm just gonna throw out here that 3 local mail deliveries @75g each will cover the costs of purchased mats for one cask, plus a bit. Depending where you operate, that'd take you about 10-12 minutes. Or one regional mail delivery @200g if you travel farther afield.

lol... um... i'm thinking scales MUCH larger than that... by your accounting, i'd have to do about 900 mail runs a day to cover the cost of all my daily cask ingredients.

What i'm looking at aiming to do is have two production chains going, one for beer and one for wine. The wine will be my main profit source, and the profit from beer should cover the mats for wine. So technically i'll be getting wine sale values at beer investment costs, further increasing my overall profit.

Just to further put this into perspective, buying the crops from another player wheat, barley, hops, grapes @2.8, Yeast @20 from the npc, water @2 and sugar @4:

    profit per hour of work:
    Beer 7,200
    Edelmann Beer = 7,872
    Wine = 20,160

"work" is basically just craft time (at GM cooking). So time it takes to craft the ingredients and stuff them into the casks (2 actions).
