I went a while without a decent enough computer to log in and was unaware that I had to log in within 180 days or lose my lot. I finally got to log in to find someone else in my spot. I might sell off my account now. I don't know.

Welcome back, any decorations will have been sent to the local bank and your deed should be in the bank/inventory, there's plenty of lots elsewhere to find a new home!

6 months is a long time... house lots should decay faster in my opinion. Many lots in npc cities have been claimed but are still vacant since persistence that they should of been unclaimed and allowed new players to obtain and actually use.

Yeah, it'll all be in your bank. Just have to re-setup everything which can be a pain if you had a lot of decorations, but gives you something to do :)

If you check your bank you will find all of your stuff is there.
Don't panic, there are a lot of property still available.

Just think about this, if you left your real life house for 6 months without checking on it, you would probably find that it was over-run with bugs, rats and maybe a few homeless people.

The good thing is, in SOTA you can rebuild and make it even better.
    Welcome back.

Just curious: Which city were you in and what size lot deed do you have? Also, Founder or Benefactor? Maybe we can help you find a new location.

It does say how much time is left when you click on the sign. You should have seen something like "Claim expires in about 179 days, 23 hours" on the sign info right after claiming it. This was done to prevent abandoned houses from taking up space, and pledge accounts get extra time beyond what a newer account would get with a tax-free lot deed. So now all your stuff is in the bank of that town for you to pick up and start again.

The thing is, six months IS a long time, and now player-owned towns can be much better than most NPC towns, plus a governor can work with you on placing the lot boundary.
They do decay faster for most people. You have to have a pledge account AND a tax-free lot to get a longer expire time than what, 120 days? 180 days is the Citizen/Edelmann level, and the highest pledges get as much as 13 months. You can also set things up to let someone bump your lot timer if you'll be away for a while.

6 months might be a long time. but the game launched less than 6 months ago. Kinda makes no sense to have decay turned on during beta, IMHO.

Decay needed to be on during the beta. First, every system should be tested. Second, we need active player on the lots to test the loads on the cities. It be a pretty poor test of the way the game can manage load of active lots and players if the towns are full of empty abandoned houses.

I can understand if there was a need for being purged. From what I see is there is a need for people to place. Why would you purge people that have placed without need? where there people standing in line for this lot?

Sorry to hear about your plot collapsing, tis true that they require some amount of maintenance.

My advice is to take all from your bankbox and move to another town or plot! Plenty of good spots are open at the moment!

Sorry to hear your plot expired, but as everyone has said the good part is, its in your bank.. with all your stuff. RL does tend to take us away from games and months can pass quickly.

Fear not, there are many places with spots to live in, who are ready, willing and able to accommodate you. Many player own towns, <cough including my own> have space and would love to have you.

Dont give up, it is painful and hurting that its happened but as others have said, sometimes its good for the next version is better

Sorry to hear you lost the place you liked to life :(
...but there are other nice places to live all over Novia.
I think its just a few towns, which are prime spots to players, which are taken since landrush.
There are PoTs with nice and helpfull players and even spots like Elads lighthouse, close to New Britanny, still offer lots to live :)

Welcome back! We've only just begun. And depending on the town, you may be better off now. I'm sure a great spot awaits you!
