The site says It is Open world, to me , that means continuous … The game says "A vast open world awaits you!" Guess I was wrong ….

Ah NEVER mind, they call them NODES, which = Zones right? MY BAD....

Nodes are the mechanic by which player driven settlements are developed, and how our world grows. Our map is sectioned off into zones, playable areas with an environmental theme. These zones are then subsectioned off into smaller, invisibly defined areas we call “Nodes.”

Open world happens it seems when you leave the Nodes...

So, another group is using the Unity Engine? Say it ain't so... LOL

    This is Unity.

Actually... this is in the Unreal Engine, but it is interesting that some of it does resemble SOTA with them Morels...

All things considered though, what was their budget? Because for that being pre-alpha footage, it looks pretty decent.

I believe it's the Unreal engine they are using.

AoC team are using Unreal Engine but there are lot of assets/props made by artist selling in both stores (as freelance artist what you want is to have your stuff in all places).

I know they have a great artist team so I'm not sure why they are using so many assets from store. When you find same items/props in several games.. the art direction can be lost.

I've been following Ashes for a good few years and always intended to play it as my 'next' serious time invest MMO as I loved the design concepts. I particularly liked the zone concept with the associated city growth within each zone and the trading hubs and caravans. The combat seems fairly twitchy Korean style stuff and was slightly less appealing to me, but that's just what I've seen and watched, not played. The graphics look amazing as you would expect from a heavily tweaked Unreal engine.

These days I'm not so sure I will invest in it, certainly not before launch, as SOTA and Ashes have converged so much over the years, so as people say, its getting more difficult to set them apart.

Ashes is taking an age to develop, which I guess is good, its very well funded and seems to be forever in Alpha, fairly early stage development from an end users side so it could all change over time.

Not sure. I have seen some YouTube vids on it but ages ago. Theres shed loads of stuff on the tube about it, much of it promotional and extremely well made.

... We should probably move this over to the existing game room thread where there is already stuff on Ashes.

I just looked briefly and it looks like It's still not finalized.

I just saw Black Desert Online's character creation...... wow!

I wonder how much it would cost to get something like that for sota.

I'm in their Alpha 1 testing starting next month. AoC is another Kickstarter I became involved in. Looking forward to trying it out.

The negative is it only supports Windows. Other than that, I'm very curious how it will work out.
