Zone chat is so quiet everywhere.... I would love to be able to turn my avatar into a mobile shop, stand around and have people click on me and browse my wares to purchase. This could encourage people to stand around yelling in zones to peddle their wares.

Yes I agree we need more interaction . But new players like myself sometimes get confused with how to chat in game .

Most new players don't know how to use the chat window properly. I wrote a book about customizing your chat window and creating a 2nd one so you don't miss chats. I think it could be possible to get more zone chat going on, if only players knew ;). If anyone wants a copy of the book to place somewhere or perhaps you want to make your own. But for those who don't know, we can drag an extra window tab out and resize it and set it up for chat only options bye using the little blue gear. It keeps the noise out of your chatting. Just an fyi. I am Majoria in the game. Sorry to disrupt your idea but I wanted to just mention this too. ;)

So you wanna be a mobile vendor...

Gather up your stuff. GO hang out somewhere.

Conduct Business Like Normal People. Very Easy.

You would love for people to be able to "CLICK" on you.... how quaint

I would love for people to be able to look me up and shop ALL my vendors like Amazon and I won't have to play the game myself.

Get Up Go OUT And SELL!

    Lazy Dang Avatars.

Then give me the tools to do this:

EVERYONE must play in OPEN mode - disable private and party mode.
Allow me to link my wares directly in the chat so people can browse my wares without manually opening a trade and asking to see an item, some people might not even know what they want to buy.
Allow global chat so I can advertise to the couple of hundred people scattered around Novia - wasting time shouting in a zone where I hardly see more than 5 people is tedious.

    Backward Dang Game.

I think it's a good idea, it would be great for new players in particular to be able to have their wares easily browsable.

Having participated in several player to player markets, the biggest hangup is that it's a PITA for the other player to be able to see what you have for sale. That's all that really needs to be improved, the ability to share our inventory easily for browsing.

P.P.S . You do realise Amazon is a global hit, its service has attracted millions of users - causing many high street stores to go bankrupt and close down because they were unwilling to allow easy online browsing of products.

Well you see... not everyone wants to buy other peoples stuff.

Second most folks will report you for spamming Zone Chat with ads for your wares if you do it too much. Since that's what people tend to do.
Hence WHY we don't have Global Chat.

    TIWWCHNT

Exactly. So allowing folks to do as I would like as quoted above.
Or as You would like would essentially put ALL the vendors out of business. NO?

Tools are available. Do like EVERYONE ELSE DOES.

Your Idea That EVERYONE Should play in open mode to accommodate your game play is not going to fly around here.

Amazon provides a platform for many stores to distribute their products, much like how Portalarium is using it to sell their physical game. Stores that embrace the online browsing have fared better than just having a shop presence. Anyway, getting beside the point now... so you have put forward your points and I have mine, people can make their own minds up.

I basically disagree with everything in this thread. :)

Turning zone chat into sell spam? No thanks. I do think it would be cool to write a script for your vendor NPC to say - but only in /l chat.

Friends only mode is necessary for pretty much all higher level encounters. There is simply not enough room for many groups to do the same thing at once in this game, and this is part of the game's design. Multi Online-only mode would be a disaster for this reason alone (there are many, as its by design to have many diff online modes).

SPO is necessary for similar reasons. I cant imagine having to share these mines with lots of random people.

Attracting more players to the game is a better way to find more activity to observe and players to interact with. Reducing or simplifying features (esp those that are the backbone of SoTAs design) in the hopes that it will bring people together is not the right way.

I was being sarcastic with :

but back to the point, they have to either fix the public vendors to encourage more people to use them; or allow the starting noob crafter a more viable way to sell their wares. Noob players do not have access to their own vendors or properties and also have very little means to interact with people - this makes it very dull for crafters starting out.

There are many POTs that offer free housing in inns *plus* the ability to use commission free vendors within the town. You might want to check some of them out.

Lovely advice, but how does one judge if the Inn and vendor offered to your use will persist for any length of time? I've seen inns close down.... and the feeling of depending on others isn't fun for some.

There's no risk for you if you are set up as a tenant. If the inn or the vendor go under, all of your belongings will be returned to the bank. You simply set up in another town then. Really, the chance of that happening is very small. Especially if you choose an established town.
