It would still be nice to have a way for people to brows.. brouse... how the heck do you spell it? wares you had on you. I wouldn't normally be using it, tons of stores already, but the community market events are great and a perfect opportunity for people to meet each other, sell some wares, and have a fun time.

Unfortunately you can't really see what anyone is selling. Or that was my impression last time.

Previously people had been able to browse the sellers containers, but last time that wasn't working (this was post containers within containers upgrade, maybe that changed something.)

    Hello everyone.

I think there is a fundamental division between older players and newer players.

Older players can essentially make whatever they need or know someone who can do it for them.

Newer players have nothing. Nada. You have to go to a dozen towns and PoTs to find one little thing, every recipe you want to work with.

    Every. Single. Time.

It takes hours - sometimes multiple play sessions. That's awful. That's no fun at all.

And there's nothing lazy about that. Veteran players ought to show a little more compassion for new players who are scrambling to find solutions for an obvious problem - especially here, in the New Player Feedback subforum.

I do my best to help new players get integrated.

@Ebonmark is one of them, and a serious asset to the community. He's only been on a few months and already he's helping new players, running a guild, and producing content here.

It would be a real mistake to blanket ignore his requests and just call him lazy.

Reliving the days of the Nexus in Everquest does not really resolve the issues.

Event driven farmer market style encounters would encourage a better face to face bartering experience for the commited.

We do this. But having the ability to easily see someones wares while they are there chatting with you is a big plus.

Now, maybe at the last event the permissions got screwed up, I don't know, but our work around had been "Look in all our bags and you'll see the wares". That wasn't working last time. I'll try to test it out with my alt tonight and see if the permissions were just messed up.

And yes it's time for me to host one at the Factorium, I haven't done so yet.

What really needs to be addressed is giving the starting new crafter player a VIABLE means to sell their wares. The public vendor is the only outlet a BRAND NEW player fresh off the rift has, and it's very under utilised. They need to fix the public vendor, or have some other tools to engross the new crafter. Before they even find a POT, Inn, a player to allow them to use a commission free vendor in a high traffic area, they will already find the game dull - especially without crafting quests, or direction IN GAME to show a new crafter in the right direction.

Great points, but this will only happen AFTER the adventure experience improves for the new player.

This also being mostly a sandbox game, after a certain point, jumping in with the hopes of being a high end arms/weapon crafter is already daunting to even some of us who have been here a while.

New player adventure areas are pretty good already. But the crafting is a single quest that relies completely on the adventure side.

Yes, and that is the mindset. Any crafter who is going to be serious at the craft has to have a network of supply provided by the adventure side, or learn adventure skills to get past the guardians of the resources (your mileage may vary with agriculture providing items too)

Also, going back to the Sandbox for a moment, you provide a very valued experience (I suppose you still run the Factorum in similar fashion as you used to) at least supports the player driven solution towards what is being asked for.

Edit: These are just options that are available, not advice on what you must do.

I do not think that there is any issue with the new player experience to be honest. Join a guild and a good few have vendors you could use for free.

Complete the shroud quest and you can yourself get a free deed for a house, so you can place a house and vendor in popular merchant towns.

I am in Crossroads alleys myself that town gets me plenty of natural sales. There are many other towns like Novia Market, Crafters Town, New Brittania Market and more!

There is enough out there and there are even sections in the forum and discords where you can promote your vendors.

In regards to making players to become vendors like in other games that is not something I think Port want to do. That type of question was brought up and they politely dismissed it. It would just take up resources that could be better spent on other players.

If you do ever want help promoting your items I do have my stream discord that you can join and push your items for sale too! Just head over to discord.dulayne.net and you will be invited to my discord.

TLDR - The vendor system is functional, it is readily available and the Community are happy to help! The big thing about Shroud is it is all about socialising through more natural means.

    I hope that this helps!

Thanks! I do still do it, although now it's more in person due to the massive PITA that is listing buy orders. So if someone shows up and wants work, I have them make me a bunch of boards or poles or timber and then buy it from them so they make a profit.

I do also keep our buy orders stocked on the Factorium and Aerie vendor, again, it's a pain, I see why the Soltown vendors I originally read the riot act to were giving up on it back in the day.

Praying for the vendor improvements to show up, at least on buy orders, before I too give up on them.

@Dulayne I don't think encouraging new players to rush through the content in order to achieve an objective totally unrelated to that content is viable advice.

Some players disregard the content entirely, which is their prerogative, while others take their time and allow their game play to progress organically, which I think is the right way to go considering how much better things are getting with each monthly update. In addition, allowing players to avoid grind will also encourage retention as they will perceive that content is ready and waiting for them when they feel ready.

The best advice for new players that I can offer is to become a tenant. There are many free-rent inns that also provide free CF vendor access, as governors have realized the benefit therein.

But this is discounting the many different personalities and circumstances possessed by players. Introverts, extroverts, lone wolf types, parents of young children - our players span the gamut, and it would be terribly chauvinist of us to discredit their preferences and insist they adopt our playstyle.

Whether the solution to getting new players of various types better and more quickly integrated into the economy is similar to Mingo's or if there is another solution to be found, I cannot say, but I believe it is a civil dialogue worth having.

I said it is possible to get a deed by completing the shroud quest, not "I advise you to complete the shroud deed as quick as possible". My points were more along the lines of "these are the things that can be done". I will edit my OP to make that a bit clearer though as this seems to have not been picked up.

I also brought up there is the ability to join a guild which provide access to their own CF Vendors too, like Lunar Dragons. I also explained about a couple of ways to harness the community too.

However apart from that your advice is sound and people should keep in mind when doing content.
