I got to 120 Combat Training hoping to raise Taming Level buff to +17. But, it was still +16 at 120.

    I think you need 121 for +17

I found that “Combat Training at 80 (+14 tame level bonus), 94 (+15 tame level bonus), 121 (+16 tame level bonus)” in the OP posting. I have not raised beyond combat training past 121. If you got +16 at level 120, the calculation must of changed and will need to be tested in the next qa.

I was taking combat training to 120 because of the post that said max level of pets is achieved at summoning 126 and combat training at 120. I went to get that quote to add to this post and found that it now says 121. I guess it was edited and fixed at some point. I am glad that it now says 121 because that matches with what I found.

FYI I did have the +10 taming blessing at the time, but I did not think that it would change the text appearing in the tooltips for combat training.

And, to clarify, combat training was +16 for a good number of levels and I expected it to go up one at 120 to +17. It didnt, so perhaps it will go up to +17 when I reach 121.

Furthermore, as I leveled combat training, I was looking at both the tooltip showing this level's Taming level bonus such as +16 and the Taming level bonus for this level +20. When I went from 116 to 117, I noticed that 117+20 or 137 will have a Taming bonus of +18. So FYI, there is a chance that the max level of pets might go up again at combat training 137.

Just to verify there is now these new pets in the game:
    - Large Obsidian Bear - IN Ruined Keep
    - Obsidian Destroyer - not found
    - Ferocious Patriarch Bear - IN Ulfheim
    - Ferocious Obsidian Bear (Thanks @Boradic Boneslasher )

I will do a mass update with these new pets once I am able to tame them and look at their stats. If you have any stats and your abilities to include (look at where I have the animal hp/focus with that skills I have listed), please let me know.

    Thank you.

Hmmm ... tamed a ferocious obsidean bear ... 14K+ hit points in the wild, 84 summoning and only about 100 hit points more than a standard 59 summoning obsidean as a pet? Somehow that's just wrong :)
Took it down to 650 hit points and had a 13% chance.

ya they made it so your taming specialization also adds to the chance you get in trying to tame a pet now. So you will have a better chance. Really the taming skill is how it should have always been now... just time to work on all the other skills in the tree an add to the taming specialization

The fact that I could tame it at 119 / 66 taming / specialization was a bit of a shock albeit a pleasant one, but the bigger issue was why such a powerful animal was so completely nerfed as as pet. I hope that this last patch was just the first of many to make taming what it it ought to be.

i have been complaining heavily about how weak the tamed pets have been for years an a lot more last couple weeks , I hope they do as well …. its kinda funny how combat skill/summoning/ taming specialization gives the weaker ones such a bit of a jump but the higher the adv the tamed pet is the weaker it gets, ok I can get that but then it goes from +'ing it to oh wow now the pet is sooo much weaker... oh ya gives ya something to look forward to...………. an all endgame pets become not solo'ble… well for most of us Kazar is a absolute BOSS when it comes to taming, same with Pawz… but Kazar is the only one I know who solo's the Obsidian Destroyer

That's awesome! I 1%'d to get mine. Feel bad though, because there was a group trying to tame it and I was just trying to get some levels so I could do it on my own.

    Thank you @Perashim.

I have a purple Wyvern now and have updated the summoning and hp/focus drain portions.

No problem! I absolutely love my white wyvern and even though he's only half of strong as my Destroyer, I'm probably going to keep my wyvern as my main pet :D

Glad everyone is happy bout the wyverns that are in now, but it will be very nice when the high level wyverns are added for us high level tamers (don't get me wrong I really like a pet with better attacks an that flies just waiting on high level stuff to bring tamers into par with everyone else).
