We should probably check Vertas for Pike and Gar.

I Caught king salmon right off the pier at my house in Elads lighthouse.

Ive caught a couple of "large" fish off that pier.

Somone caught a shark in aerie a bit ago. Heard of another in knigsport.

Honestly, at this point i doubt they had enough time to do anything special with any of the locations, and as long as your fishing salt.. you probally have a shot at any of the rare salt. could be wrong though.... but i say this having spent massive amounts of time travelling and fishing. not getting anything in one place im not getting in another, and the super rares, ive only gotten a couple off the list...so far :)

I am curios.. has anyone caught the rare fish from regular fishing spots, or from "special" spots only?

Im going to guess thats the sort of more detailed items they haven't touched yet, and you can probably pick them up anywhere at this point, with the spots jsut giving you some better odds... but hadnt heard much about it in relationship to rare catches either way.

Do folks feel that there is any location basis to catch species beyond water type and the RNG gods? I hope so.

Caught all my rare and uncommon fish in regular waters with chance being anywhere between 40%-67%. At GM fishing it usually takes me several hours of active fishing to get rare trophy fish, I would say between 4-8 hours, but have not really run the metric properly yet. I catch uncommon fish 5-10 times in an hour if I am really actively fishing. The rare fishes are really rare to say anything about them, all I can say is that uncommon baits were worthless to me so far and all my pale and dread leeches caught nothing, regular fish or armour pieces, no uncommon/rare catch and no blood leech yet so I stick to my trusty minnows. Hoppers were also bit of disappointment.
Then again my numbers are small numbers of one guy, the overall statistics might be different.

It all seems random to me. My fishing is 105. I'm 110 with Buff, using a rod that gives me +3% Fishing Critical Success, and using a Pax Ring for +33.3% Bait Recovery Chance. The water type seems to be the only thing that matters. As far as ripples go, it does seem to, initially at least, give a better chance of success. The longer you stay in any spot the lower your success chance will be; I've gotten down to <1% Chance. Basically, if you want to catch Salt water fish, fish in any salt water location. The same seems to apply to Fetid and Fresh water. I could be wrong, but this is my impression of the fishing system I've gathered from fishing many locations. I also noticed in the Stats Log that your Fishing Level does not alter your Fishing Success Chance, which, according to the Tool Tip for Fishing, it should. If you use a Prosperity Fishing pole or a Heavy Iron Engraved pole you can get +3% Success Chance, which increases my FishingCritical to .02. I'm not sure what Fishing Critical does, but it does seem to increase the amount of fish I catch. Hopefully, they will fix the Fishing Success Chance modifier bonus that comes from raising your fishing level! Also, it would be cool if there were particular fish that can only be caught in certain locations, or at least have a higher chance to be caught.

    Mysterious swamp in hidden vale.

All fishing is based on water type not location (Currently), and GM fishing is the same as level 1 fishing except you can cast a tad further.

Sadly I am at work and can’t check, but you could fish in the Broken Echoes Silver Mine. I don’t know if it currently can be fished.

Got my first rare today. Swordfish in Point West using a prosperity pole and minnows. Was on the farthest dock off the main docks. I have noticed that it is directly related to the water type and not so much the bait. I have caught all my fish ..all common and all uncommon but one using redworms and minnows. So the rare baits arent meaning much just yet. Have also noticed that at sundown and sunrise they tend to bite better. And it was raining i do believe when i caught that swordfish but dont quote me on that. LOL. Heck i didnt even notice i got it til i was looking through inventory for sardines...i got hungry. LOL

The special baits only seem to increase your chance to catch a fish, not a particular type of fish. Each bait has a description of what it does. Some bait, Sardines and Herring for instance, say that they are as good during the day as at night. Some say give bonus' to particular types of water. I've seen just regular bonus' and Large Bonus.
