@Lained It seems like @Mischievous Dragon found a workaround for that issue.

You can try the following steps:
    1) Exit Steam
    2) Delete the game folder manually (from ...\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common)
    3) Delete the Game Data Path folder manually. (C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Portalarium\Shroud of the Avatar(QA) by default)
    4) Delete the C:\Users\[username]\AppData\LocalLow\Portalarium\Shroud of the Avatar(QA) folder manually
    5) Use CCleaner to clean the Windows Registry
    6) Launch Steam
    7) Verify Integrity of the game files and wait for Steam to redownload and reinstall SotA

@Lady Morgana that did the trick, I'd cleared out the registry before so one of the others steps must be the culprit, thanks!

On my machine the path to the game install is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Portalarium\Shroud of the Avatar(QA)". I have verified that uninstalling the game using the non-steam installer does remove the installation data of the game.

So perhaps this is an issue with the steam uninstall process not properly removing the game installation? @Lained, can you confirm that you are using the steam installer, not the standard windows installer from the website?

@Lord Subtleton I use Steam to download as patching with the SotA launcher invariably fails with a GetThreadContext failed error but launch via the Shroud of the Avatar.exe bypassing Steam though starting either way had the same issue.

I've just tested uninstalling via Steam:
    • \Steam\steamapps\common\SotA\ empty
    • \AppData\Roaming\Portalarium\Shroud of the Avatar(QA)\ has files
    • \AppData\LocalLow\Portalarium\Shroud of the Avatar(QA)\ has files
    • [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Portalarium\Shroud of the Avatar(QA)] has settings

This would indeed be correct behavior. Uninstalling the app should leave settings, and user data in AppData folder unaffected. Based on the fact that you are seeing this error and no one else is, and the your stated history of client crashes, it sounds like you may actually be encountering some file corruption. Some virus programs are notorious for corrupting the very files they are meant to protect. Perhaps there is a 3rd party virus program running on your machine?

Incorrect: that error was affecting @Mischievous Dragon too:
She was telling about it on #qa-server on Discord yesterday.

I use ESET Endpoint but have tried disabling everything in order to identify the cause of the GetThreadContext failed error with no success.

Uh sorry, I meant that MD was getting the URCHIN error.
(I didn't notice you guys changed the topic from the URCHIN error to the GetThreadContext error of the launcher).
Lained still is the only person who is getting the GetThreadContext error with the SotA launcher.
The URCHIN error got triggered for MD after she updated from 805 to 807 on Steam.
