Friends, probably everything was with me. That the skill of Survey is the most useless skill in the game. I have a suggestion. It is possible to replace the detection range with the amount of ore in the mine and its accelerated appearance.

Getting mining survey and foraging survey to 80 each has been rather beneficial.

Yes, the green glow can be quite helpful...

Yeah those 2 are actually helpful. The rest, not really.

Once you know where the nodes are... Survey is useless. Mainly because that glow doesn't show up the same way in every scene.

My mileage definitely varied from yours then... out of Mining, Field Dressing, Foraging and Forestry, the only one that has ever made sense and been helpful is Foraging.

Mining: As stated, once you know the node locations, having them sparkle at you is useless.

Skinning: You know where you killed it, and if you didn't kill it, you have a corpse name floating above it.

Forestry: trees.... I mean... c'mon, they are really hard to miss. If you know what you are looking for, in some scenes you can see ALL OF THEM if you have a decent vantage point.

Foraging: THIS makes sense, and is useful because of the size of the things in question.

A node may or may not be there, so having it glow at a distance has been pretty beneficial for me. Also, getting a skill to 80 is a pretty minimal investment in XP.

For me, the usefulness of mining survey depends on the mine.

    Elysium? not all that helpful.
Spectral mines, which is really dark and has small nodes that can be hard to see? Very helpful

there's a surprising amount of silver in vertas pass, but many of the nodes are small and wedged in odd places that blend very well with snowy rock.

would be cool if some of the nodes were invisible and you needed high survey skill to see them or perhaps high survey skill could cause an ore node to respawn instantly after you've mined it. I've actually seen that in-game but not sure why it happens.

    THIS

    Or... another variant...

Node visibility is skill dependent, so not only do you need higher skill to see gold and silver (and higher mining skill to be able to successfully mine it), but some lower skill node types like Iron and Copper have higher skill node variants that will have a higher chance of giving more base and special materials when harvested.
