    @Chris - Please consider. :)

There is a significant demand for garlic in the game right now, but unfortunately the economics of garlic mean it's never worth the effort to grow it, particularly given the price per garlic expected by buyers. The issue can be trivially demonstrated by comparing it with growing the same amount of cotton to sell to a vendor (not even a player!).

    Garlic:

    1000 seeds: 8000g
    4000 water: 4000g
    Cost basis: 12000g

    Harvest average: 8000 garlic
Garlic sell price to players (if you're lucky): 3g
    Gross: 24000g
    -12000g (cost basis)
    ---------------------------------
    Net: 12000g

    Cotton:
    1000 seeds: 16000g
    4000 water: 4000g
    Cost basis: 20000g

    Harvest average: 9000 cotton
Cotton sell price to vendor: 4g
    Gross: 36000g
    Cost: 20000g
    Net: 16000g

I.e., you're throwing away 4k gold by growing garlic instead of cotton. It's even worse if you compare to what you can get for something like mandrake, which is also in high demand.

There are a few different solutions to this, but the simplest one would be to make garlic a 16 yield/medium growth plant, like mandrake. This would lower the cost basis enough so that selling at 3g is a better deal than vendoring cotton. Any other option (adjusting watering schedules, for example) would take a major overhaul of agriculture and thus are not likely worth pursuing at this time.

This underlying problem applies to all of the "short" duration plants with a yield of 8. There's just no monetary incentive to grow them. And the expectation of 3g/per is not particularly viable either. What I see from buyers like @Rada Torment is an expectation of 2.8-2.9g per. Which makes it even less worthwhile to grow garlic.

I understand you Mishi, and probably the planting needs a balance pass but I can tell you there are players selling garlic for 2.8 - 3g ea, every week I found somebody selling at these prices.

Yes, I understand. It just means they've never bothered to do the math.

IF everyone stops selling garlic and just sells cotton, then the demand for garlic, and the price, increases.

Theoretically, yes. But they'd have to understand the economics of agriculture to do so.

They'd simply have to understand ECONOMICS to do so... or how to simulate it...

This is the problem right there. This is why I dont sell my garlic. Same with people who sell metal scraps for 3-4 per. But since I use my garlic, and I play so often I can do 37 greenhouses of it twice a day, I make it worth my time. I dont do it for coin though, or I would do cotton. I do it for the producer exp I can get from that garlic.

Exactly... I grow garlic for myself as well, but the economics just do not back growing it for sale to players. Really, much of agriculture is a mess, monetarily.
