Most games do patches in the off hours for good reason.

The afternoon and evenings are when people are going to want to be playing the game after work or dinner.

Not sitting around in their leisure time watching the game patch or being interrupted mid-session.

I think they wanted to squash a pretty bad visual bug from what I see on the livestream today.

    You must be jokin lol

They interrupted 3 events this week alone to patch things that have been sitting there broken for days.

Like it matters if they would have waited til an off-time to implement the patch.

As far as patching being annoying, that is exactly the point. I barely even notice it in other games.

Most games do it late-night / early morning. Some even do it in the background while you play.

Here they put out a release, then spend the next few days / weeks releasing 5+ patches to get it right and then release those patchs with poor timing.

    Rinse and repeat every month.

As far as timezones, someone is always going to be disrupted but they can easily choose a time when population generally low.

It doesn't take much common sense to realize 7:30 Central on a Thurs or Fri is probably not the best time to interrupt your game.

How many complaints do you think it would generate if they left broken stuff they had a fix for broken until a time that is convenient for you?
And, even a full blown monthly release doesn't take more than 5 to 8 minutes for me...

    I'll take the fixes, thanks.

And, if your problem is that you're using the Steam launcher to Patch... Switch to the Portalarium launcher. You'll be much happier.

We all hate being interrupted by patching during our play hours.
But it must be remembered that Shroud is a Global game, with Players from all over the World, covering multiple time-zones.
No matter when they patch, it is always going to affect Players.

There were unexpected & substantial bugs that plagued the game introduced in the last patch
& it was imperative that they apply a new patch to hopefully squash these bugs, especially with the weekend/peak playtime looming!

I second the arguments eloquently put already. In a global game there are no off hours. What may be supremely convenient for you is inconvenient for someone else. I'll take the patches as and when they come.

I'm confused I am on Pacific time. The last patch I got was yesterday at 1:30 PM. It was supposed to fix all the texture issues, and from what I see, everything got worse. So if there was a patch today (without release notes), I did not get it?

There has been no patch yet today.
It was building during the live stream... It would then have need to have been tested prior to pushing to release.
As we have yet to see the patch, I can only conclude that something went not as planned, and they're likely working to get whatever that was corrected.
@Chris stated that getting the graphics problems fixed was their only priority... I imagine it might be a long night for the team.

EDIT: I checked for a patch right before I started writing this... No Patch
I checked again right after I posted this... I'm now downloading patch 948.

    Cheers.

Sorry to say, but I'll agree with this. Never saw patches go in during prime gaming time, especially Friday evenings and I'm not saying this because it's when I'm on the air on Avatars Radio, either. In my 20 years of playing multiple MMOs, this is the first time I've seen this. Patching on Friday evenings is a regular occurrence but in the industry at large it's usually it's done at 3 or 4 am central.

Game patches are done at the convenience of the majority of players, not the publisher.

    Give me a break

What time do they put out new releases?

Do they swap that around every month so it's fair for everyone?

You put out a patch at a time when it's gonna have a low impact on the game.

    Not evenings CST

Port has been trying to get more players to join the Q&A server. That would help with the number off patches.

I was watching the stream too today....Apparently there was a major visual bug that got through testing...thus the patch for the evening. Mistakes happen and even more so with a small team. It was bad enough where they had to do a fix immediately. Doesn't make it right, but shows where the current team is lacking for uploading patches where not thoroughly tested. Chris apologized and expressed how upset Starr was that the patch happened the way it did.

Its a great lesson of making sure you do smoke testing before a release. Don't be too mad at them. **** happens...They will definitely learn from this.

Portalarium should have exact user statistics... but I’d say the Asian player group is the smallest, followed by Europeans. So after midnight US (whatever time zone) = morning CET = afternoon/evening Asia should be the quietest time.
On the other hand, if they patch during their normal work hours they can react faster if something doesn’t work out as intended
