There is no real "gold" testing for the patches, SotA is like a ongoing Early Alpha.
When the month is over, they release the patch, no matter what...

    Frustrating? Yes it is.

I guess that's another negative about Steam. With the regular patcher, you don't usually have to do the patches right away. Most patches are not "forced", and some of us bypass the patcher by pinning the main game executable to the taskbar, next to the launcher. When I know there's an update, I click on the first one to run the launcher. I also have a second computer that I leave at the login screen and can log in via VNC to get the daily oracle test done on my alts.

The only real negative is that you aren't going to see other players, except for the others who also haven't patched. There are some who might not even see this as a negative for reasons I won't go into.

    Here is another thing

For players who are not on every day

You now have to sit there and download patch after patch if u just want to log in for a bit

They have clearly had more than the usual number of issues this release and I prefer they fix the bad issues rather than wait for the next release.

Actually, I would say they clearly have someone playing the game and seeing things actually need to be fixed for a change...

I dont know any other active game which when you havent logged in a while you dont have to patch it - seriously, unless we talked for maintainance mode games

When I cant play, and I dont play just SotA, I typically let my launchers update when I come from or I leave for work. That said those that insist on using steam got problems. For all the rest the updates dont take much. In fact most times it takes as much time as I need to make a coffee

Personally, I'm glad to see activity from the developers in the form of patches. It shows life from their end. I use both Steam and the SotA client and honestly, Steam patches way faster.

Better to get frequent small updates than to get … none.

Ah, but thats where Steam rocks. It can automatically patch the game and it's always ready to play.

So if someone comes back to the game now after a 3 week break they will get the big R65 patch followed by 16 subsequent smaller patches on the standalone installer?

Edit: 16 patches since last release

no. every couple of patches, at least, they publish a new 0-x file, it's just that most people never need to see it.

They also have the option to make roll-up patches that merge a bunch of the incremental patches within a release. But that's not what they have been doing.

I see 0-968, 970, 972, 976, and 978 on the patch server right now, and this release started on 957. Wow, I think we've gotten 20 patches this release. (some numbers get skipped)

just because they're no longer on the feed does not mean they weren't available when needed.

Is anyone seeding those torrents? An unseeded torrent is as good as gone. But since 728 or so I've been copying them (mostly diffs, very few zeros) to a file server because I copy them between two or three computers instead of downloading everything twice.

But cool that they were making that many zero releases. I guess that might even be part of the build process, they probably diff the zero releases to get the individual patches.

Perhaps they just need to pull it off steam hehe. Seems that all the complaints related to patches are Steam users. Recommend using the games launcher your patches will be small and fast. myself I like it when they patch in fixes all the time, better then waiting a month imo.

There is nothing wrong with the Steam patcher, just how Port packages patches to Steam.

Does having the stand alone launcher open, and say I head to work, download the latest patch as soon as it’s available? Or does it only check that when you start it?
