Have always been fascinated with the castle lot in owl's head. It would be nice if they would create lot markers of various sizes that comes with a moat around it.

For example, a city lot marker that is as big as a keep lot, but has a moat, with a city size lot marker within the moat.

    Just a wish. :)

there's so much they could do if they had tech to interrupt the surface of the ground, but they do not. i don't even know if it's on the someday list or if it's completely impossible given the engine or their setup.

Don't they have the tech? With the water lot markers, they are able to add a dock to it. For my wish, the ground is already flat, so technically, they are just adding a POT deco item (the moat) around the lot marker.

Maybe they could start a POT enhancement stretch goal with a $7.5k target? Different types of moat, lava, ice, sand, water marker sets at $50 each. Only when goal is reached, the payment is deducted. (say 100 days)

@Scottie , from your experience, would it be difficult to create such a wish item, a lot marker with a moat around it?

Basically this is a different take on a 'water lot'. The keep owner, for example, would sacrifice usable space on their lot to get water on a portion of it instead. Makes sense to me in that regard.

Yeah, the sad news, in this case, is that Unity itself doesn't have a system by which we can "cut out" a hole in the terrain to create/insert something like a pre-crafted moat... Water lots are allowed to exist because the coastal areas are already sculpted in Unity as part of the terrain... An existing lot (in other words, with a flat plot of grass) could only have a moat if a world-builder would be willing to spend the time to go in and sculpt each individual moat by hand, which is something I guarantee you they wouldn't have time to do... ^_^

Maybe its an idea for a future POT template, where it could be done once but reused.

They could do something like the koi ponds, where it is a raised area with very shallow water, but looks decent. Then it would fit together like castle walls around the property.

Not exactly what you want, but something.

Actually, that was what I had in mind too. Ice and Lava can easily mask the shallowness. But then I thought, if its not going to look good, then its better not to have it at all.

Another idea I had is to have an elevated lot marker. Like temple steps leading up to a city lot (for ancient columned home?) or a lava flowing hill with a town size lot for an obsidian tower. You will not need to cut out any terrain then.

Most game engines and other virtual world creation systems have some methods of terraforming and terrain deformation in realtime or static scenes using parameter adjustments. Unity does, and there are a variety of ways to do it, including setting it up so players/users or POT owners could have permissions set for some levels of terraforming. The same applies to weather and day cycles, etc.... IN a lot of virtual worlds even lot owners have some degree of control over their environment.... including music with a static radio stream being played, and that players can opt-out of. So technically speaking, our Player Owned Towns could have a lot more control over a lot more things in their towns. Likewise, lot owners. It's a matter of choice on the dev side. Here's a fun video of some really cool realtime terrain modification in Unity 3D.
