I played Ultima IV with my two best friends, over the course of a summer break, when I was 12, on a Commodore 64. It's still the most magical experience I've had in gaming! Anyone else remember this gem from the seminal days of computer RPG's?

omg yes. this was the first RPG i ever played. and i was absolutely hooked after the first few minutes.

I remember keeping a stack of papers full of my notes. I had all the locations of things, mantras, spells, quests written down ... so many hours of fun exploring that world.

and the time i first discovered hidden doors in the castle! good times.

    Greetings MightyUnclean
My first Ultima was Ultima III. Each time I played thru it I discovered some extra dialog with NPCs I had not talked to before or hidden things in areas of the map that I had not been to before. It was great to just wander around and discover things. After playing it I went back and played UII and then went forward from there with UIV and the rest. All of them are great. I still play UII and UIII using an emulator. And now I have SotA to play so the memories continue for me.

I still have an Ultima IV-V-VI box set even though I no longer have a floppy drive on my computer.

Ultima 4 got me through my parents divorce. Not saying it was the best way to cope or manage. It was what I had.

Ultima 4 was one of the only major things I "completed" in my life without any outside assistance. That and the Bar Exam. Think about it. Unless I knew someone playing (which I didn't) with whom I could share information, there was no way to get through the game other than with a notepad and graph paper. I was too young to know about or pay for "guides" if they even existed back then.

    Thank God for "Save Game".

Tried playing the PC version from the CD-ROM collection under DOSBOX on an Android tablet a year or so ago. I learned it was not a good match for tablet play, because you gotta do your own mapping manually.
