    Little perspective:

Banish Undead is the only offensive skill in the life tree and only damages undead, you have to cast it constantly unlike other aoes (ring of fire, meteor shower) that works on everything and that you cast and wait awhile .

The so-called balance for banish undead involved halving the susceptibility of undead to banish, effectively halving the damage done by banish and quadruple the cost of garlic.

    Here are some numbers:

I am not specialized in life but have invested 1485 points in the life tree, have 335 life attunement and my Banish is at 140.

Recently did Eastreach Gap for one round my banish did 233420 damage with a max hit of 1287 and an average damage of 474. I spent 1030 garlics, 317 sulfurous ash and 252 corps wax, that is not taking into account the regs that I may have looted.

What did I get for that: 16 crowns, 2000-3000 gold and 5 mil exp.

Love the exp but what I looted does not cover the cost of regs. For me this is not sustainable it is a constant negative cash flow. I can live with the reduction of the susceptibility of undead to banish.

How do these numbers compare with say ring of fire and meteor shower?

Is this balancing or nerfing? What do you think? @Chris

    1030 garlic @ 1.5 = 1545g
    317 ash @ 6 = 1902g
    252 corpse wax @ 5 = 1260g

    total = 4707g
    gold acquired: 3000g
    net loss: 1707g

    This doesnt include durability losses...

Reagent costs are just beyond ridiculous now. Its not just banish, its everything. Even with conservation potion on I'm spending more on reagents than I am getting in loot, even only considering grow-costs of garlic/mandrake/nightshade. And not just a little more, but I mean, spending 10x as much as the return. I've had to abandon the prospect of a 'sun deck' entirely because solar flare cost is just stupid, forget about using ankhs as well. Banish undead deck is also stupid. Earth deck is stupid. I'm really starting to think its time to pick up a sword because magic is starting to feel like I'm actually fighting by throwing money at monsters, and considering that nearly everything in the game has ridiculous magic resistance, its feeling a bit pointless.

This thread is making me glad I took water as my major magic tree. You need weapons and/or a pet to do the bulk of your damage while relying on ice spells for cc (and water for secondary healing).

Reagent cost is a factor but not to the major extent it is now for other trees.

I agree, Oremanger. I am specced Life and my reg costs have gone through the roof. I am using close to 1000 garlic and 500 corpse wax on a Eastreach Gap run, plus quite a bit of Black Pearl and Mandrake. Even though I grow my own mandrake and garlic, my bank account drops more after each run. Seems Life tree costs have gotten markedly out of line with other specs for higher level content.

They just want you to spend money on buying Cotos so you can exchange it for gold.

I think Banish Undead was way OP but I also think that increasing the reagent cost on top of all the nerfs was too much.

I think Chris did the right thing here ... Lot of players jumped into the Ankh of Sacrifice and warlock chain wagon because theyre the strongest artifacts out there.. But power should come at a cost ..in this case the more powerfull you are the more reagents youll consume ... Now we all have a choice we can gear up with the best artifacts and pay the price or we can use items that diminish our power but saves us from using alot of reagents .

These 2 items alone have 400% reagent consumption ..if you use 2 ankhs thats 600% reagents consumption ... Power at a cost .

    [IMG] [IMG]

Or you can go the Ashen route ...which will save you 40% reagents consumption.

Again , the choice is simple ...more powerfull and more reagents used or less powerfull and less reagents used .

I don't object to 'power at a cost' - but the relative power gained for the relative cost spike is completely out of whack.
Being in a scenario where, even without using ankhs and such, you are losing more money than you gain in loot is a bit baffling.
It looks like instead of just having to "pay" for producer XP, we now must "pay" for adventure XP as well, ...or go pick up a weapon instead.
Its very backwards from the expectation of going out and fighting stuff and actually having it be lucrative...;)
