NFL has high and low ground? That would certainly make it a lot less boring!

Well you guys have certainly peeked my interest. I attended the first SotaCon. One question I might add to the mix has to do with my own mobility. I do not need a wheelchair but my walking ability is usually limited getting across a parking lot before I need to sit (osteoarthritis in my spine and knees). Since I've never been to Castleton (always wanted to go!), I don't know the layout.

So can you guys give some indication on walking distances and such? I'll also be interested in finding out about accommodations for those of us who don't have camping equipment and need a soft place for our old bones to rest.

I also wanted to add my 2gp that as the first person who actually let me taste mead (I'm a very slow learner), I can't think of better hands for SotaCon to be handed off to than Winfield. Winfield will create the most wonderful event for this community!

@Rhiannon you should be fine!! We are thinking of everything to make everyone's visit as comfortable and enjoyable as possible!

NOTE: We have not announced exact dates yet; they are still in coordination. It will likely be in October 2020 as usual though!

The overall property area is pretty big, but most activity is in the Castleton Village on the right side. So no worries!

    Lord British's Property:
    • Castle in upper left under construction and off limits
    • Curtain Theatre in middle where we will use as desired AND watch the Baron's Men play "The Tempest" on Saturday night (also available Friday night)
    • Castleton Village in upper right (main area for most activities)

Castleton Village - where most of the activity will take place.
    • There is a car drop-off point aka "Taxi Stand" area near the pavilion.
    • Close-in parking for those in need is near the "drop off/taxi stand" on the left.
    • The entire Castleton Village area is pretty flat and easy walking.
      • Pavilions for meals, King's Dinner, vendors, board games, story telling (or find a nice tree somewhere), panel sessions, etc.
      • Camping area; hot showers.
      • Hotels within 5-12 miles too!
      • Port-a-johns. (well serviced, plenty of air freshener available)
      • Fishing spots!! (of course)

@Rhiannon thanks for the kind words about me. There are in fact several people on our team deep into planning the festival that will make this an historic and fun event for our community and more. So keep passing the word about this and we'll get more details out as they are planned!

    Thanks!

I am Disabled and walk with a cane, the distance I can walk is limmited.
Ravalox, Winfield, and I walked the property doing a site Survey for the event and there are benches and such along the path so I was able to sit and rest as we went.

We are working diligently to get the dates solidified and costs. We're hoping for an official announcement end of this month. We do have a Heraldry contest going right now.

It is with an abundance of caution and love for our community that we announce the physical gathering in Austin, Texas for Festival of the Avatar is CANCELED for October 2020.
As the Coronavirus Pandemic continues to spread around the world, and countries continue to close their borders to international travelers, we have decided that it would be unwise to continue to plan the event in these uncertain times.

We are now planning to hold a VIRTUAL Festival of the Avatar on October 16-18, 2020.
As such, we will be looking to the community for ideas and more team members to help create, organize, facilitate, and participate in a grand virtual festival event.

I hope you're all staying safe and sane, please stay tuned for survey opportunities and more info, and check often at https://www.festivaloftheavatar.org/ for news and updates.

Albeit it's extremely unfortunately to hear about the live event, it's certainly understandable due to the trying times we're all enduring. Hopefully the virtual event brings people together just as well! I look forward to seeing what's in store for the Avatars of New Britannia! Let me know when your planning team is ready for me to put anything in an update or a Tweet etc.
