I love how SOTA is so quick to nerf skills but very slow on fixing things that are broke, for example maps and also atonal in the bard skills. How did we maps for a zone and now there is no map. And for a new player who zones in to an area and pulls up the map only to see there is no map. Make maps rather than maps of towns.
You're right. When i logged in for the first time i just assumed there is a cartography system and i just need to buy maps to unlock them from map window.
I thought players were now responsible for map making and catnip would host those maps. I'm sure fixing that system is right up there with fixing brewing.
Hey, if port gives me a Cartography skill similar to how minecraft's map system works, with skills to be able to mark nodes (make survey skills useful!) I would gladly use my ingame self made maps instead of hosted maps!
They have maps. They were removed to try and fix an unrelated problem. There's talk of adding it back in. It'd be great if they added back in the existing ones, but it would be better to have the map generated with the data.
Bard skills are just getting rolled out. One should expect adjustments. Give it a little time and it will be great.
I think we all understand its a work in progress. However seeing 1 skill nerfed multiple times (and this last time, nerfed so badly that its now completely worthless), while another skill in the tree is completely non-functional, another can't be learned, there's no specialization yet or clue as to what that might actually do for the tree (will it bring skills to pre-nerf levels at the cost of spec?) is really frustrating. History has shown us that things often get nerfed but very rarely get 'brought up to where they need to be', and based on that, the sentiment at the moment is "RIP bard, it was a nice idea." I hope I'm wrong.
I'd be happy if they just rolled out the maps you find or can buy for all the zones, would be great collectibles and useful at same time.
There's been a lot of stuff that's gone into the game half-baked, but the addition of the bard skills is really in a category by itself. Literally every active skill went in either broken, OP, or both. Canticle went from ridiculously OP, to OP, to people don't want to use it anymore. Chaotic feedback still works on the huge HoT that anyone can use with any drawbacks. 3 of the skills have effects that just fall on the ground where you start casting them and become tiny invisible wards. Some skills still can't be learned, including magic warding, which was also broken when bard stuff was added to the tactics master. If/when all of the skills are fixed, at least one of them will also obviously need to be nerfed. I don't expect stuff to all be perfect when it goes in, but this particular episode is pretty bad, and I hope there will be some real focus on it, because these skills would be pretty fun if they worked. A lot of people were really hyped about it, and they've been waiting for like a month now without much positive change.
And the craziest thing is all of these things had been thoroughly tested! The bard skills were on QA SUPER early, everyone reported literally all these things, but nothing got fixed. This was the prime example of how the QA process has been pretty useless for a while now, and like you said, Bard skills were a special case of why and how the F did these things happen..
The dev staff needs more people, they need to fix bugs, and things should live on the test server for longer than a day before going into production. This has been around for how many years now?
Ah, but to compare games 'apples to apples', are you sure that we should count pre-release alpha builds that you and I experienced? SOTA didn't officially 'release' until when .... Mar 27, 2018? By that measure, SOTA is only a 2 year old game in its official release state. And we know that MMOs are patched well into the future after their launch date. By comparison, I just saw LOTRO patching something really basic - moving the position of the Captain's herald 'pet' - 13 years after its official release period (finally, ugh!). I'd need to make that 18 years if I needed to count its pre-Alpha concept. By one measure, SOTA is still a baby! Cheers!
Yeah. When I saw Chris put that Bard skill on live, which is not even working right, but was all reported on qa I was like, what are you doing??? Just slapping half or not even working skills on live is just not the best best way.....
Maybe not more people, but one more, specifically unity specialist/consultant. There are many freelancers with tons of experience in Unity (found many on toptal.com in 5 minutes), and seems that SOTA needs somebody who can tell it's dev how to use that engine without breaking stuff on the way.
It has been a work in progress for years. and there are bugs that still to this day from 2014 that still haven't been fixed. I have more faith in Star Citizen getting released than Shroud of the Avatar getting their bugs fixed. Oh wait, guess I'll just go to the Dance Party.
