Question on Custom POT Music approval process:

I am bringing up the issue since some of the EP2 POT owners inquired about it.

In the old days, getting custom POT music approved was like this:

    1. You make music with following restrictions:
    - No modern day instruments allowed (no synthesizers!)
    - No modern day music techniques allowed.
    See here for details: https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/f...er-owned-towns-how-to-get-custom-music.38368/

    2. Post the music to the Soundcloud.

    3. Get reviewed and approved by the Poets' Circle

    4. Submit to Final Sumission Thread:
    https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/f...dsourced-music-final-submission-thread.12787/

End result: Music gets added to the game, and you get limited edition wax cylinders.

One catch: Poets' Circle website does not seem to be active:
    http://sotawiki.net/sota/Community:poets'_Circle
    http://poetscircle.net/

What are the current procedures for getting custom POT music approved ? Are there any updates to the procedures ?

    Thanks

I doubt this process is valid now. I would ask @Elgarion

Yeah, that's a good question. Holt Ironfell discontinued the Poets' Circle website a few months ago, and all of the people that I worked with directly with regard to reviewing and managing the submission process are no longer with the company. I will, however, see what I can find out.

I inquired with RG who directed me over to Chris. From my discussion with Chris, he advised that he definitely wants to be able to get custom music into Episode 2. Holt Ironfell asked him about it earlier as well, but Chris indicated that he's been so busy that he hasn't had time to hammer out any details. The best I can say for right now is that they plan to allow for custom music (both new tracks for the game as well as custom pieces for PoT owners) but that the process of making that happen is quite hazy at the moment. I did let Chris know that I'm more than happy to volunteer my time to help manage the process and keep the time demands as light as possible on him and his team, much like we did the first time around.

As soon as I get more info, I will share it here.

I'll poke Chris again, but i know he's really busy right now and I don't think custom music is at the forefront of his current workload.

I gave Chris a nudge to this thread. Give us a PM/another nudge if we don't get back to you soon :)

I suppose that now would be the appropriate time for the aforementioned nudge, depending on one's definition of "soon". ;)

Heheh, yes -- I just put this on my to-do list. Let's figure this out :) I'll try to learn a few things this week.

I just finished talking with Chris, and I've got good news - Because of our success managing the original SotA soundtrack creation and submission, he's going to have Poets' Circle manage things this time around as well.

We will keep this pretty simple - If you are a musician or have a musician that wants to make music for a PoT, just have them contact me via PM. The same rules with regard to keeping music period-appropriate will apply, so stuff like obvious synch instrumentation, electric guitars, and other modern instruments won't be allowed. Realistically the rules shown here are a bit out of date in some areas, but are still accurate with regard to what instrumentation is allowed and what the songs should sound like.

If you don't have a musician to write a song for you, let me know - I still have contact with many of the Poets' Circle members and they may be willing to write a song for you. I'm uncertain what, if any, fees they would charge, but I expect it depends on how busy they are and how much time they estimate your song would need to compose. (Many musicians charge by "revision", where each time they are sent back to make changes to a song, they charge an additional fee, while others just charge a flat rate up front, and others just make music as a hobby and don't charge anything!)

I can likely make myself available if anyone is looking for a musician to help out!

Some new tracks here if anyone wants to listen:

I am still uncertain about the process. Is this applicable?

If you have the music for your POT, skip to point 4.
    1. PM @Kailef that you need someone to help you
    2. PM the musician about the music that you require
    3. Get the link of the completed music.

    4. PM kailef with the music.
    5. Poet's Circle will review.
    6. Once approved by Poet's Circle, you have to contact support?
    7. Limited Wax Cylinders will be mailed to you?

Would appreciate the information. I would like to publish the info in game as help books as some POT owners don't check the forums.

Nick, that's pretty accurate, yes. I'm hoping to get rights to this forum so that I can update the stickies I made previously with the proper instructions, but what you stated above is correct with regard to each of the major steps of the process. Also, I'm glad that Santa Clause is still about, he's one of our best composers!

    Thanks!

@Elgarion, could you help with Kailef's stickies? I believe those threads are locked since its been many years.

Hey @Dinsoo - Are you also perhaps interested in writing some music for POT owners?

So awesome this is going again. @Kailef, I see your PM -- I'll get to that ASAP. I look forward to helping in any way I can. HOPEFULLY, I can figure out how to load them in once they're submitted to us from the Poets' Circle. ;) If not, I'll need to get some quick training :)
