Hey folks, with the recent news that we can now change the appearance of regular items (not applied to artifacts yet) without any restriction other than being the same slot and type of weapon, I would like to know how you feel about the changes.
Now, for example, a cloth wearer can look like full plate and vice versa.
We were told too that artifacts will be pattern friendly soon as well.

I, for one, am happy to see one of RG's poorer "immersive features" fall by the wayside.

Next release, or shortly after. See this week's weekly announcement.

Yeah. Just waiting for it to be added then see what we think. Seems like a neat idea though.

Yeah just checked, it isn't in the game yet.
I thought it was working for regular items.

So how does this work exactly?
I mean if we can just cosmetic override one item with another then...what's the point of the patterns?

    You'll still need the patterns.

Yeah, it just means that now you can apply any "head" pattern to any piece of head gear, instead of being restricted to only cloth patterns for cloth hoods, etc.

The first thing I will be doing when this is actually added, is adding the Pirate Ornamental outfit to my harvesting gear. I shall henceforth be known as Anpu, the Pirate Harvester.......

First thing I'll do is transform my crossbow into a bow.

I missed "crossbow" in the list which I put in a few hours after the update was initially published. Sorry to get your hopes up on that one :p I'd imagine we're low on crossbow patterns. Perhaps we'll get some more in soon.

    Oh that's sad to hear!
Why bludgeon and blades folks get a lot of liberty while I get stuck with crossbows which look and sound pretty lame? The thing doesn't even register crit sounds! Gimme bow pattern for crossbows, I need! :D

We might do a crossover pattern concept with them one day, but that'll have a unique tech challenge to overcome. We'll try to get more crossbow patterns available as soon as we can to lessen that sting. I've jotted down the sound comment/crit sound in my notes for later as well.

As many like to point out, magic exists in this game in other forms than how we use it.

    • Gravity mages currently are more into exterior decorating and factory farming than combat
    • Illusion mages weave spells into the threads and links of cloth and armor to confuse people's opponents in PVP
    • Space-time mages sell enchanted portals and run the logistics of the banking system, which they probably own.

The magic schools the players get stuck with are the ones with non-commercial applications in the empire. :D

Would this mean I could apply the pattern for my obsidian cloak over my clockwork wings? I used to love running around in that cape. Now I turn off the wings because, well, sorry, I don't like wings (Edit: the wings give me nice buffs, just don't fancy the appearance). :D

Please let me know otherwise, but yes -- you should be able to do that in R86 ;)
