Visit foggy Brookside. Open Map and look at the compass.
There are signs missing, for example: Magic Shop, Bank

i don't think every shop needs an individual marker but, @Sannio, isn't there a rule that the town crier is auto-marked on the compass when entering a new scene or is that rule just for pots? that's not happening and would lead them to the general vicinity of the shops.

Regarding the in-game map not having markers, I think that is possibly a known issue for the programmers, but I made a new issue (#68680) and assigned it to them.

We decided early on that that all town criers in POTs should have their own compass marker. After implementing this rule, we decided it would be good to do the same thing for any NPC town where you could own a lot, but implementing these extra compass markers has been a low priority "slow implementation" task. We've only implemented a few here and there. If anyone finds an NPC Town with an out-of-the-way town crier with no compass marker who should be prioritized then please submit a bug report and I'll check into it.

Regarding other "town NPCs" and utilities, our "rules" for implementation are loose and admittedly subjective. One general goal is to mark critical services only if they are located in an unusual/unexpected place, or if multiple services are gathered then we'll add one mark for the whole location. For example, we'll mark a crafting station pavilion but not every crafting station in a scene. We might mark a bank but usually only if it's away from the town's main cluster of buildings. Most merchants remain unmarked, even if they are far from the "main cluster," while the cluster would get a shared marker (e.g. "town square" or "marketplace").

Thanks for all the clarifications! I'll review the scene and see if additional markers should be added. I'll also look into setting up a trigger that awards the town crier marker when you enter at the default scene entrance.

That's a good idea, but I already submitted the change where you unlock the town crier compass maker from entering from the default entrance. I'll also make it so you unlock it from the lunar rift, but it'll be in a later update, probably even next release since it's not a critical change.

Entering Brookside at the default entrance for the first time with a newly created character is not currently placing a Town Crier compass marker in build 1345.

This has been fixed in build 1353. Thank you!!

[9:29 AM] Entering Brookside from Novia
[9:30 AM] Location of Town Crier marked on compass and map.
[9:30 AM] Location of West Exit marked on compass and map.

Entering the town for the first time with a new created character now shows the crier on the compass now.
