Is there any reason that these won't stack?

they are designed to frustrate you to the point of salvaging them, then cry at the amount of scraps you get.

I think it has something to do with being equippable. Pretty much all the equippable goblets/mugs are that way. At a guess, somebody duplicated the characteristics of a cratfable mug when making others, and that non-stacking quality got passed on to all of them.

If I recall correctly all offhand items can’t stack. Cups, Goblet and Mugs etc.... they can be equipped.

But they don't have durability. So, again, why can't they stack?

It’s because they can be equipped.

    Not durability.

    From this wishlist request:

    Make Decorations Stackable
    https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/forum/index.php?threads/make-decorations-stackable.162625/

Starting in R55, drinking vessels were made equipable and were no longer able to stack.
Could drinking vessels be changed so they are only equipable after being filled with a beverage at the cooking station?
Or could empty drinking vessels be updated some other way to make them stack again?
Please make empty drinking vessels stack again if possible.

    - Drinking vessels, make stack if possible:
    Ceramic Cup
    Ceramic Goblet
    Ceramic Mug
    Earthenware Bierkrug
    Gold Goblet
    Ornate Porcelain Regalis Brittany Bierkrug
    Ornate Saltglaze Drachvald Eastmarch Bierkrug
    Pewter Cup
    Pewter Mug
    Silver Goblet
    Silver Virtuekrug
    Small Blue Cylinder
    Tea Cup
    Wooden Mug
    Glowing mugs (ex. chaos mug)

    Release 55 Instructions
Discussion in 'Announcements' started by DarkStarr, Jun 27, 2018.
Merchant & Drink Adjustments for Brewing: As part of brewing we have made a few changes to drinks, drink containers, and merchant inventories. We have separated consumable drinks from equippable mugs. This means you can still equip an item that looks like a drink but it will no longer have anything in it. For instance a Mug of Ale will now be an actual consumable like food versus a Mug which you can equip and display. Merchants now sell both equippable/deco mugs and “cheap alcohol” that is shorter in duration than crafted alcohol.

Equipables cannot stack. There were previously two versions of the same items. A deco mug that stacked and an equipable one that did not. Now they can each be used as an equipable or a decoration and each items appears the same in the inventory.

If it can be equipped it cannot stack. These items were switched to not be stackable when the ability to equip them was added.

So, all drinking vessels can be filled with a beverage? If that's the case then it makes sense.

They do, but it’s not enough to actually use in any economically feasible way currently because you can’t find them in an efficient way yet, other than running in and out of a scene and stealing a few of them at a time.....

They may (?) someday be drops as loot or that actual part was forgotten to be added...... or they are still deciding how to do that.

They forced cups (which can be equipped in your hand) to not stack 2 or 3 years ago for some technical reason, maybe to do with combat stuff.

In fact if you already had some stacked from before the change, for a few months there would be an error un-stacking them because the game would refuse to produce the remaining partial stack after removing one.

If an item has durability then it can't stack because it has a property which makes it unique. If an item can't stack because it's equipable, that is not a good reason because simply being equipable does not make an item unique. If you can fill a drinking vessel with a beverage and then reuse that drinking vessel, that would make it unique (I haven't tried this). If it's a one-shot deal; use a crafting table to turn a wooden mug and some ale into a mug of ale which is destroyed on consumption; then there is no property which would make a drinking vessel unique and they should stack.

The goblets will get some nice salvage love with the upcoming salvage work. Spatulas, all that stuff. ;) Each of those goblets will yield worthwhile amounts of goodies. Not enough to make you go out and look for them as mining would be far more efficient, but enough to make you wanna grab one if happen to find one next to you.

As an interesting segue from the equippability of goblets being related to their lack of stackability.
One thing that's been particularly frustrating (and its not an equippable) are planting pots, planting beds.
These are in a nice stack on the vendor when you buy them, but once they are in your inventory, they no longer stack.
Presumably this is because you could potentially have plants in them at various growth stages, but they don't even stack empty, which results in a crazy amount of clutter. Is this an oversight, or another technical limitation why you couldn't have a stack of Planting Pot(Empty) x100 ?

upping the salvage from goblets won't necessarily up the salvage from goblets. when you take world items the value is zero and you always get only one wood/metal/cloth scrap from salvaging them. you can take something to USE, if your shield breaks and you find another lying around, but you can't take something to PROFIT. ...so the only goblets giving gold/silver scrap are the ones that have an actual value from loot/chests, which is a minority of the goblets in the world.
