2 questions I am wondering about.

First is how do you see the stats on an item before you buy it or equip it? Second is where do you get taming collars?

 

Item stats are shown on mousover, though it's bound to the comma key by default so you may have turned it off by mistake. (This binding will change for new players next release to make this less likely). You can also hold down ctrl while mousing over for a more detailed breakdown of the stats.

Taming collars can be crafted, bought from player vendors (we sell some in Arlia, just east of Nightshade Pass), or occasionally looted off mobs, particularly trolls.

 

You can also compare an item you have equipped by mouse over and hold alt. This is a good way to see if it's better than what you already have.

 

One exception to that is with rings. You can not compare against the "second" ring - you have to swap your two equipped rings to compare against another one..
