First of all, thank you so much, this skill is fun to use, I love it, it's damage is quite nice, and finally I feel like I can put focus on Water attunement over other types of attunement as a PvE Water mage!

    SPEC EFFECTS:
The spell has an EXTREME cooldown of 60 seconds, but you can reduce this with Water Specialization
The spell has a 2 second cast time that can be reduced with Water Specialization

Here are the pros and Cons for now

    PROS:
    - High damage, as all water spells, the damage is quite high, which is nice!
    - The attack speed debuff (-10% on a single stack, +0.5% per stack) can be applied 3 times!
    - The attack speed debuff does not share a channel with Ice Fist / Ice arrow / Icy Puncture / Glacial Glissade
    - The 20 range is quite good (as long as Banish undead, shorter than ice arrow/Solar Flare)
    - The width of the cone is excellent!

    CONS:
    - The cooldown is INSANELY HIGH! 60 seconds without Water Spec, 45 seconds with lv40 Spec, 36 seconds with Lv80 spec, 30 seconds with Lv120 spec.
    - The attack speed debuff is very short compared to the cooldown, which means managing the debuffs will be harder, and if you want to use this debuff correctly, you will need to consider when you use the spell
    - The focus cost is quite high, but acceptable for an AoE.

In my opinion, this cooldown is really extreme, I was comparing similar skills in other trees, and most Damage spells that have a 30 second cooldown (the highest for damage spells I noticed) can be reduced to be lower than 30 seconds by their schools Specialization, meanwhile I can barely reach 30 seconds at 120 specialization, which is quite a high spec level for many.

    Wrap up

So, IMO this spell is a very good addition to the water tree, I think it deserves to have it's cooldown reviewed because 60 seconds is crazy, and I would love to see a new enchant for Tempestry gems on chest armor to increase its damage, like Solar flare does for sun Gems.

    Great overview, thanks!

Excited to see this skill in action, and I wonder if another option (instead of a chest enchant) might be something like 6% Cone of Cold Damage imbued jewels. Or whatever percentage is a reasonable tradeoff for losing 12 attunement (from the Imbued Tempestry Jewel one could otherwise use)

I agree, Jewels could be a nice alternative! I had crossed Gems off cause I feel like Gems is already a saturated category for water mages (well, there are only 3, but the 2 good ones, Greater Tempestry and Ice Arrow would be REALLY hard to beat)

    Good idea!

We'll keep our eye on it. The Frost Giant's Eye's stats have changed to affect Cone of Cold power... it will be a gem, 20% per pop. Talked to Chris just now, his intent is to keep it powerful and to encourage it to be used sparingly during key moments. We added a spec effect to increase the attack speed debuff a little as well which you might not have seen. But ya, not a jewel.

Guess it's time to multiwield wands like a madman, imagine the Hardened leather set, but with wands instead of daggers, for all these Gems you're making me

It's a big AoE, with an attack speed slow, so, my current ideas are
    1. Use it against groups
    2. Use it when my tank is about to get attacked by fast hitting things or lots of things
    3. Rapidly throw out a 6/5/4 stack of it with high draw speed.

Not the kind of spell you use on a single target, with its high focus cost and cooldown, I won't be using this to kill the lone mob, and I'm quite probably making a set of wands or a staff just to use this spell, gonna swap to my CoC deck, burst it through, switch back to my more general wands.

It is nice to hear of the cone of cold. I do know an ice mage who left the game due to his ice would no longer have a freeze effect. PVE and PVP have always had some interference with players abilities. To have a strong character almost always sends a question if it is op'd or not so we lose players who want to enjoy the game and see their characters get strong but oh no this will effect pvp right? Well still wishing that the devs can manage it all but alas a game can't be all at all. It has to chose and in the meantime we lose those players who don't care about PVP and while I've always thought we should be able to have both the decisions to effect the character skills and stats instead of allowing pvp gear and items to separate the two has sadly been the case for this game. So just some thoughts on characters skills and stats. I'm so sorry to have lost our little ice mage.

Mark me as slow? I fail to see what benefit the cone of cold gives me over ice fist. Without scaling of the 15 second attack speed, I can do a better job by using ice fist several times for the duration of effect much more efficiently than trying to use cone of cold. Am I missing something? I started training this skill but wondering if it is just a waste of experience. I am Melee, water spec, 200 plus attunement. Plus (as an off side, perhaps bug comment), I see no mob speed attenuation at all but still needs more testing for me to be sure. Ice fist gives both an attack and movement speed debuff for nearly a minute duration at 120 skill level.

The difference is Ice fist is a close range, 1-3 target max spell, Cone of Cold is a 20m cone AoE, big difference.

I understand that. My point is that I can throw ice fist to control a large group, controlling essentially all for over a minute, whereas cone of fist just reduces attack speed once in that time with movement speed untouched. Thus all the mobs are on me at no reduced movement rate and 15 seconds later they are at full capacity. Ice fist allows me to control movement AND attack speed in the same amount of time for up to 20 mobs and as a melee character and that is huge. I was looking forward to cone of cold, but have stopped training unless the debuff gains in duration with training and spec. Even then the movement speed difference is a deal breaker for me. Perhaps in a group setting having one person spamming cone of cold one could benefit the group from archer and mage attacks somewhat. I visualize being able to do better running around with ice fist in a group setting, slowing movement and speed for the mobs and being more effective in a support mode.

Well that's the difference between you and me, and where this spell has much more utility for me. I am playing as a mage, so I barely get to cast Ice Fist ever, because they dont usually reach me, since i can blink away/run away. Meanwhile Cone of Cold does some quite decent damage at a fairly large distance. For me, Cone of Cold is much more useful than Ice fist. It is a mages spell, not a melee's spell

You are right, being melee I don't appreciate the mage perspective. I am a polearm and ice specialist, and thus am disappointed with cone of cold. It has no use for a melee character, and a bummer for me. However, ice fist is extremely valuable, hence my spec in that school. One question for my own education: Does the cone of cold work well for you against ranged mobs (being that they are usually separate from the group)? Do you aim the cone through melee mobs towards the distant archer or mage ?

I try to make sure the ranged mobs are in a 90 degree window in front of me, and usually it hits them all, usually aiming at the melee in front of me yes. It has been very good at clearing large groups in scenes like the Panopticon, The Rise and Outlaw's run.

This picture is a single blast of Cone of Cold hitting 5 targets. It is good.

What lv is your multishot? How much strength does your avatar have? Look you use the multishot damage+ food? The multishot+ masterwork?

I've seen Multishot do as much damage from some archers, it's up there!

That is with 354 attunement, 120 spec, 120+ Cone of Cold, and Ice shield for the spell crit damage +.

I don't think it's that great of a spell off spec and off attunement, at 60 seconds of cooldown, it won't be great, but I'm curious to know if you still like it!

At one time it was rather over-powered. That's not the case anymore. It's actually under-powered now.

My Multi Shot skill is 130, Ranged Combat is 150. I know that I could focus more on Multi Shot power, but that would be at the expense of other things, and it's simply not worth it.
