I updated my map with a jpg again. I'm going back to PNG as soon as the wiki gets updated to support the bigger file size.

Map updated with this week's reveal! In addition to Resolute and Highvale that tradyblix mentioned, we also have the Sanctus river. Also, for those that didn't have it, I have a translated map of The Hidden Vale as well here.

Do we know what the average number of hexagons is/will be for a puzzle piece completely on land?

I pasted the map of the Hidden Vale onto the Novia map here. The Hidden Vale map was resized to match the latitude / longitude lines. Based on that overlay, the Hidden Vale is smaller than a single jigsaw puzzle piece.

Based on the R4 test, there are about 237 hexes on the Hidden Vale island, of which about 196 were available to walk on. If we use these figures, and knowing that it's smaller than a puzzle piece but not taking into account water on the Novia map, that would mean about 8,295 hexes. Cut that in half for water and places you can't navigate and it's pretty crazy how many scenes they'd need to create to make this a single-scale world.

Oh, and there is this tiny thing called the underworld catacombs that stretches across the entire continent of Novia, and there is no "overland" map for it...it's all scene to scene travel :)

Novia is a Spanish word that means "girlfriend".

Shimano bike parts? I know Shamino was inspired by Shimano but...

Well, a name is just a name I guess. What are the names of the dungeons?

It goes back much farther, to the Latin root novus, for "new," "fresh," or "young." The more recent Finnish root is nova, which is the sudden brightening of a star.

The partitive plural of the Finnish nova is novia. "Partitive plural" is a construct that does not exist in English. Check this page out to see what it can do: http://www.uusikielemme.fi/partitiveplural.html.

I'm guessing the Finnish is the inspiration here, in part because it's Finland and not Rome or Spain and also in part because Tolkien adapted the partitive plural into one of his own mythological languages. In the context of this map, it probably means something like "Brightening" in an existential sense, though that's difficult to translate into English.

Or you can take the Latin meaning of nova, which would make it a derivative of novus, meaning new. So to extend this you could say Novia is the partitive plural of something new -- meaning Novia is 1 of the 5 new continents we'll be exploring in New Britannia.

I'd always taken it to be a proxy for new. Kinda fits with New Britannia etc.

Not a coincidence, RG said that he is inspired by that map. :)

By the way in that thread map Novia was just an island (I think that now in the world), and Owl´s Head was in the continent.
