Not sure if this has been mention earlier but there are a few ships in Star Citizen that are multi-person ships. For example Constellation or Merchantman, which allow you and your friends/guildies to fly the ship as a team (co-op play in PvP world). As far as I know, Chris mentioned all the ships in the game are obtainable with in-game currency with the exception of Bengal class carrier.

There is also mentioned of ship boarding as well where you and your team can try take over the ship.

I think I would have backed it but one crowdfunded yet to be released game for me will have to be enough!

There's Pledges with multiple ships, can you pilot a fleet or do you just get to rotate ships?

You could hire an NPC to fly your ship *or* if you bought multiple ship packages then you"d have additional character slots. An additional character slot means that you have customizable NPC who really is part of your crew & whose skills develop over time.

For multi-crew ships like the Constellation , if you"re flying solo, you'd need an NPC to fly the attached P52 Merlin snub fighter & 2 more to man the built-in turrets (2). Ideally though you should have a 5th to be the navigator/RIO. An NPC crew would still be inferior to having human players perform all the mentioned functions though.

You concentrate on flying one ship at a time. If it's a multi-crew ship you can use NPCs to help crew it, although Chris Roberts is currently toying with the idea that the largest of the player flown ships will need all human crews.

all the ships you own are placed in your hangar (safe) and you can rotate ships yes. or you can hire npcs on mission basis that fly your ships for you.

there was some talk that you could hire NPCs on a more permanent basis but i dont know how it stands currently

i would only risk npcs on ships with LTI personally but i'm a kickstarter backer so :)

Can I just mention Elite Dangerous a remake of the great Elite that revolutionized the games industry back in 1984 I really think it needs a mention
as a backer of both SC and ED we have two great open world space sims.
Here's a taster I think you will be surprised how polished it is!

Yes, Roger, Elite: Dangerous is a neat offering, too. What it does, it does very, very well. It's not going to be as deep as SC, unfortunately, with such a tiny, by comparison, budget.

Before you assume that's the comment of a one-eyed SC fan, however, let me say that I played the original Elite back in the 80s, and several sequels afterwards. I am a backer of Elite: Dangerous, too.

As an ED alpha backer I can sympathize £200 for an alpha is insane if your not involved in the whole big picture
but there again I spent $750 on a knights house on sota and so did many of us here, so its subjective.

That's pretty much what I've done, though, to be honest, most of my "wife doesn't get to ask about where it all went" monies has gone to SC at this point, and will continue to for the next few weeks as I tack on the final pledges I want to make. Then I'll likely put in a little more towards SOTA, and at least get the novella and maybe a package upgrade.

Both look like fantastic games in their own rights and both have my support.

Oh, and the Alpha counter is down to 777 as of posting this.
