    Updating the main thread.

I've posted a tool to help you calculate the square footage based on choice of lot types for you're Player Owned Town that can be purchased in the Player Owned Town Store.

The tool will allow you to plug in the various lot sizes (Row, Village, Town, City, Keep, Castly), then it will calculate the total sq meters and output the size of town you will need and the cost.

I'm also working on building some templates and other tools as you plan your town. Some of this will need to wait until Portalarium releases more details on the layout of the hex/towns, NPC buildings, etc.

Enjoy and please send me any feedback for enhancements/changes

6/21/2014: Added new feature. There is now a running total of how many Sq Meters are left for each Town size as you select your lot types/sizes.

    6/23/2014:
I've made more tweaks to the tool, which includes:
    - Added new rows to show size (ie. row 10x15) in the heading
    - Added prices to the "Running Totals" area
    - Hid the "references" section since all of these details are now in the "Input" and "Running Totals" areas. This can still be viewed by pressing the "Show Reference Table" button

    5/2/2015:
    - Updated to reflect new POT pricing as of 5/1/2015

    5/3/2015
    - Updated POT Calculator tool to incorporate into SotA Housing website template. New link is: http://sotahousing.com/player-owned-town-calculator/. I will try to maintain the old link, however in the future the new link will be the only one updated.

Thanks! I'm looking at some expansion options already as I plan the webpage version. Hope to find time to work on that this weekend.

I've updated the calculator to be a webpage. It's in a much more useable format now. I will continue to update and tweak, please let me know if you have any suggestions!

    Updated main post/link.

    Nice work.

I think the SOTA dev's might be missing the 'emperor's new clothes' here.

They are assuming that the gaming community is filthy rich. The mere fact that we spend so much time gaming means that we are the least likely people to end up in high powered jobs! I do ok in real life but some of the sums of money they are asking for seem damn high to me.

It worries me longer term that anyone casually looking for a new game will be flabbergasted at the sums of money involved, and that the milking the present/future player base will dry up pretty quickly. If the business model is based on the assumption that I will spend 20 dollars on a cloak of uber-whataverness or a virtual parrot they are sadly mistaken. I would rather have a thriving game with developers that wasn't FTP but I realise that the culture of the internet demands everything for free.

Does anyone know if we can actually design the layout of the player town (where town square is and houses etc)... If so that could also be a cool addition yo the calculator.

So far I've only seen these details:
    • Design Session: with Team to define details:
      • Lot Selection: Which lots of which size they want
      • Biome: Forest, Mountains, Grasslands, Swamp, etc.
      • Name of Town
      • NPC Building Definition (inn, smithy, etc.)
      • NPC names and stories
      • Location: Roughly which quadrant of the map. Exact hex will be determined by Port
I've been playing around with some concepts in Visio for layouts of a town, however Portalarium hasn't announced any details on the plot layouts that I've seen. I was planning on checking out the various towns/villages more carefully this week during the E3 R6 play-time to see if I can do some basic mapping / layout of the existing towns. If nothing else, I'm hoping to provide some mapping templates if possible. As things progress, I'm hoping to build an on-line layout tool. (pending time and availability of information)

Thanks Maka! I'm gathering more data and will be publishing as much detail on housing, player towns, etc.. as possible. I'm also working on a "classifieds / real-estate" area for the site where people can buy/sell/trade housing and advertise availability for housing plots in their player run town.

I love all this stuff. I'm a big fan of the housing in game and all the items and adventuring to gather them. So reading and browsing about them I could do all day long! The classified add idea is amazing. You have to work yourself a % commission for being the first real estate broker in Sota!

I'm with you on this Maka. I really enjoy all of the housing in the game. I'll be spending a bit of time on the rest of the site this weekend, so I hope to have some content / concepts to reveal. I'll likely ping you to get some feedback. :)

FYI, apparently the tool has some issues with Internet Explorer, but works fine in other browsers (Chrome, Safari, etc). I'll see about fixing this soon.

Since they're allowing you to pick any variable number and type of player lots, it's likely all custom work in terms of town layout. However, it will be based on one of the many templated scenes. So if you pick a forest biome, you'd choose from say, the 4 different forest scenes. Based on the terrain in that chosen scene, you'd point out where all the player lots will be and then they'd build the scene. That's just my guess anyhow.

    Nice tool,

I played around with it - I recommend making a blank window default to zero so you don't get undefined results :)
