Not decided on the name yet. Call it "Celtic Holdfast" for now.

I guess I would describe what I would most like to see it turn into as "Artisan's Colony"

I know I've spoken with some of you, but I want to make sure everyone is aware, and invited to contribute to, SotATravelGuide.com.
SotATravelGuide is an immersive guide to New Britannia with a specific focus on player-run content. If you go to the site, you will get a flavor of the style we're looking at and a few proof of concepts.
If anyone is interested in having a page on the site and/or adding additional content to existing pages, please contact me. Myself or one of the people helping can work with you develop the content and give it the STG feel.
There is a thread discussing the site here: https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/forum/index.php?threads/sotatravelguide-com.11630/

    Thanks!

My lord marshal purchased a small holdfast to set up a summer retreat for when the summer is too hot in the cities or the heat is on... I mean... things get heated... I mean when he needs some place to hold up... oh forget it... trust me its not a hideout.

Name: Do you think he's going to publish the name of his hideo... I mean summer house? And if he does he's probably vain enough to name it after himself anyways...

Theme: secluded woodland, perfect for a band of merry men.... and women... and lots of ale....
    :)

    Ok, in seriousness...
    Type: Holdfast
Name: Undecided (but will be based on my in game character's name.)
    Theme: Quite, woodland retreat.

    Esteemed town leaders!

Allow me to propose some inter-town coordination of desires for information. There is still much unknown about how towns will work but clearly everyone quoted is passionate about making this idea work. We also know that the devs are busy with R7 this week so what I'm proposing is that we create a consolidated list of questions that we'd like answer and try to work out a rough order of importance.

I think we come together as a combined way then our request will be coherent and perhaps more likely to be addressed. If we ask some questions first, get the devs to think about our desires, then see how they respond. If town leaders are able to coordinate questions from their own town then bring it to a central place for pruning. If this is of interest then we can try to coordinate something (such as via G docs) and also meet on (say) Ventrilo to discuss.

Also, as the College of Arms had a G+ hangout, perhaps we can request the same. Afterall player-towns are a huge source of money and a key feature of the game.

Everyone would be welcome to contribute questions but I'm aiming for a productive use of time. :)

Good idea Jatvardur. I have been enjoying the input from the community on player towns, but I would also like to ask some questions about our player towns.

I will throw out a list of questions that I have been thinking on.

--I haven't heard anything about Snow in SoTA...I would really like to have my town in an area where there is snow at least some parts of the year.
--Will resources grow in our hex?
--Will there be in game quests or reasons to visit our towns outside of players who live there going to the hex?
--Will we be able to place water lots next to lakes/waters that are persistant in our town hex?
--Will we be able to create a theme for our town like a magical theme or a dreary theme, or a foggy theme?
--How much customization will we have in regards to where we place our lots...Like say I want a village lot connected to my town lot?
    --Will fences be customizable?
--Can we add or subtract trees where we want?

That's just a beginning from the top of my head...I have many more questions but I can't think of them all right now :)

I'm been asking Darkstarr about player-created towns, since I'm planning to get one soon. Here's what I found out.
    1. Player-created custom scenes and objects won't be supported for Episode 1. Perhaps in latter episodes
    2. Waterfront property: you can request coastal, river, and/or lake features for your map
    3. There will be no resource harvesting (other than agricultural) in any maps that have player housing.
    4. They won't be uploading player-created terrain maps in Episode 1- something to do with an issue with the terrain textures.
    5. You can upgrade the town to a larger size at a later date, but it requires everyone to store their houses and then put them down again.
    6. Town layout: they have templates and will try to match it as close as possible to your desired layout. Check out the Player Town Island in R7 for a starting point
    7. Jungles will not be an available as a biome option in Episode 1.
