I managed to log on for a bit last night and totally reinvented my deck from the ground up for PVE as a 2-weapon blades deck geared to make Sawblade Sweep and Icy Thrust combos with maximum survivability passives. This worked great in PVE. By having 4 each of Thrust, Rend, Whirling Blades and Ice Fist, 1 Health Pot, 1 Focus Pot a couple of defensive skills and a fixed Healing Touch I could really control what came up and perform a lot of combos.

So after whuppin' on Red Sashes, mimics, undead and some kobolds for a while I went to try it in PVP and got destroyed.

PVP requires a much different skill set: stuns, snares, range; a lot of stuff I didn't have. Thing was, even if I had made a PVP deck earlier (which I did) I had changed my Combat Skill distribution so I didn't even have half the skills anymore. Sure I can go through and redo my skills again but that takes time.

So I was thinking, since there's instant deck swapping; what about instant skill spec swapping?

I think a lot of it will depend on how we get skills in-game when it's live. Do we get them in a small trickle? Is there a limit or could we potentially have everything at "max level"? Will we even be able to change our skills around at all? So many unanswered questions.

i think it would be really really cool if we could lock a deck and skill tree together for testing purposes now.

    Current thinking is :
    • You will be able to respec. Dropping skills will be instantaneous, however you will require to locate the appropriate in-game trainer to acquire new skills.
    • There will be no hard level limit. Chris has mentioned that you will continue to acquire levels and new skill points forever.
    • It was mentioned in the latest video chat that the current points are akin to a level 10 character, so I would expect you will receive points in a "small trickle" over time.

Seems that the skill trees are not so deep now that a character could not earn enough skills for both PVE and PVP decks. We will have to see though.

On leveling and getting skill points forever, that sounds good. But I wonder at what point it will become more effective to just start a new specialist character that can earn skill points more quickly, rather than try to make a veteran character a jack of trades (earning skill points much more slowly).
