      • Sandboxing will be everywhere, look out for eastereggs and treasure hunts
      • We welcome players from all timezones
      • The feeling of the inner town layout should be cramped and no grid, think old european alleys and no 90' angles, if Portalarium agrees

Please note that there is too much text below. I have put most of the info on the town there so it would be in one place. But I've put it in spoilers so that you should still be able to scroll past all of what you are not interested in.
I will refine the texts over time and fix links etc.

    ...Lux Sanctuary is recruiting residents

You don't need a deed to live in Lux. See the FAQ for details.
But if you have one that is very welcome as well, we need to grow and fill this town.

    "Strength through diversity. "
We mean it, so please if you are one of those who are bitter versus other playing styles, then this might not be the community for you.

"The only thing we don't tolerate is intolerance."
A key thing about tolerance is that we don't demand commitment, so please if you are looking for a 24/7 hardcore community, then this might not be the community for you.

    "Your home away from home."
But if you are looking for a freespirited, communal, loving place.
With lots of heart, pranks, games and fun.
Then join us in welcoming the world to our doorstep and share our home away from home.

    ...Patron

We have a town lot in the most spectacular and central location in our community. It is the only town lot for residents in the Inner Crest.
Our highest wish is to get a Knight Marshal, Lord or Lord Marshal to live with us and role-play being our Patron and leader. With command over our guards, defenses and our lives.
Your family will be written into the town lore and history. We will toast for you, make songs about your deeds and write books about how you and your ancestors have saved the town on numerous occasions. Festivals will be held for you and opened by you.
If this sounds intriguing - please contact Spoon or fill in a Resident application on the Lux Website and we will contact you.

    ...Service providers

We are looking for traders, crafters, entertainers and service providers of all kinds.
If you have your own idea, please try it out with us, we would love to hear wacky/weird/wonderful concepts.
Please fill in a Resident application on the Lux Website and we will contact you.

    ...Cooks, Innkeepers, etc

Lux will feature guesthouses, food courts and the restaurant at the end of the fall.
If you have been thinking about something similar or have your own ideas in this vein, then please fill in a Resident application on the Lux Website and we will contact you.

    ...Luxury Craftsmen and Traders

Lux will feature a Bridge Market with some sweetspots to satisfy the whim of visiting Pilgrims.
We know that opening shop in a smaller POT is not as attractive for craftsmen and traders as the major NPC locations. So we understand if you have us as plan B until you see what position you can get in the lot rush.
But we do have plenty of our own ideas to keep you busy here with us and we are completely open to ideas from you to make it work.
Contact us and lets have some productive dialog.

    ...Farmers

Lux will feature farming areas in the Outer Crest. Some remote and some close to the town.
If you are looking for setting up a place to sow, care and harvest but still want to be close to a town with a market then don't hesitate to fill in a Resident application on the Lux Website and we will contact you.

    ...Residents with diversity

Lux is looking for residents of all kinds and all paths.
Please fill in a Resident application on the Lux Website and we will contact you.

    ...Lux Sanctuary - Lore

All information below is PPDD (Pending Portalarium Design Decisions).
Please note that I'm using spoiler tags below for ease of use, not because of actual game spoilers.
    Barkeep:
Well, pilgrim, you didn't hear it from me, but some folks talk about strange things happening on moonlit nights. I've seen eirie lights me'self from the Thermae and heard the echoes of giggling.

    Barkeep:
Sanctuary they call it, hmph, but there is more danger in the mountains above than it used to be. Traveling used to be safe - but nowadays nothing is. Then to top it off we are sending pilgrims 'spelunking'. *Shakes head*. Nothing good can come out of this.

    Barkeep:
There truly is something special about the Thermae, there has been blind that now see, deaf that now hear, and wouldn't you believe it, my second cousin's aunt - the wart on her nose, completely gone - and she was only floating on top of the water, she was.

    Barkeep:
*The barkeep gives you a cheerful smile*.
Oh the view and the food up here - it is to die for.
*You wonder if cheerful was the right word*

    Barkeep:
Don't you mind the markings on the old buildings and the short bridge. The obsidians used to be here, but don't you listen to the crazy folks who say they still are.

    Barkeep:
Serenity and obscenity. That's what they said to describe us in them fancy briton news, they did. Hmph, that's silly, as if city folks ain't take their clothes of to take a bath. *Scratches beard* Well, now that you mention it some of the wrinkleberries do seem a bit dazed when us local folks mix together in the bath.

    Barkeep:
Did you know that the Mayor's family ain't from around here? One day his grandfather simply showed up with an almost endless sack of gold. Started buying up all the decent folks' land. Mind you they have been nice and all, but it is strange and his father was even stranger still. I remember when I were a kid and his mother in law was approaching - he would dissapear *poof* as if by magic.

    Barkeep:
Pilgrim, if you haven't visited the Restaurant at the end of the fall, then you have truly missed something. Their venison pie is exquisite. Oh and ignore those rumors about the cats. Just because we have a lot of them doesn't mean we would do something like that.

    Barkeep:
Did you hear that there are rumors of disappearing pilgrims again? Just like when the Obsidians ruled these parts. Me, I think it's the caves.

    Barkeep:
Used to be a thieves guild here you know, even the old Patron lost a portrait and was hiring guards from all over looking for them. But when the mayor's father heard about it, he took went out into the night and sent them firmly under ground. Next day the heirloom was back, and the patron swore that the portrait was more beautiful then it ever was.

    Barkeep:
You didn't hear it from me, but it is said among the old folks that the only reason why the old order took such an interest in Lux is because of the thermal spring of the bath. 'Tis a shard that fell through the cliff they say and that is what gives the Thermae its magical properties. But if you believe everything the old folks say then you would believe in Daedalus cultists as well. Haha, that would be the day.
(some of this might be PPDD)
    • Thermae
Fancy word for a big place to take a bath. However it does imply warm water, communal bathing, socializing, puns and reddish cheecks for Pilgrims. It usually also includes the atrium and all the activities going on there. Sayings like "the Thermae is Lux's heart, spirit and gut" are common.
    • Haute Cuisine
Fancy expression for "high cooking". It's high up here in the mountains and we cook. So sometimes it's figuratively high cooking, sometimes it's literary high cooking and sometimes the cook just had some reagents.
    • Resident
Someone currently living in Lux. Not including Pilgrims, well at least not until they have spent a while in Lux. These are then further divided into citizens, lodgers and dwellers.
    • Pilgrim
Visitors to Lux, this dates back to the old days when Lux was really a site for pilgrimage and almost all visitors really were pilgrims.
    • Britons
Anyone not currently living in Lux. Shorter version of New Brittanians. Sometimes used to exclude Pilgrims, like "there are three types of people - residents, pilgrims and Britons and the latter is only one stay away from the former".
    • Citizen
Someone owning a building in Lux. It sometimes also refers to the old families who has been in the region for over a century. (While some claim more it seems unlikely).
    • Lodger
Someone living in someone else's building in Lux. Be it friends or tenant. There are lots of lodgers in Lux.
    • Dweller
Someone living in Lux, but doesn't necessarily have a specific house they live in. This is the majority of the people in Lux. Most of these live in communal dormatories.
    • Downsiders
Farmers living on the plain below the cliffs. They are greatly appreciated for their agriculture and sense of humor (or else there'd be more black-eyes when using that)...
    • Insiders
Residents of Lux living inside the Inner Wall, in the Inner Crest.
    • Midsiders
Residents of Lux living outside the Inner Wall, in the Outer Crest. This originates from when Lux had an Inner Wall and an Outer Wall, but the Outer Wall and the whole of Middle Lux is in ruins after the decline and fall of the Obsidian Empire.
    • Wrinkleberries
First day, first time visitors to the Thermae - comes from the wrinkling of hands and feet from excessive bathing.
    • Moonsight
Someone with the ability to find one's lost items in the pitch dark of the night, on the slightly curvy way home from something that might have had the intention of only one - possibly two - is it my turn - just one more - *hck* where isch my schtuff, it wasch here a moment ago. Sometimes a magical talent and sometimes an appropriation talent, sometimes both.
    • Catmoon
A moon so strong that it makes the cats sing and the boots fly. Usually implies spring or romance. The boots usually implies that someone needs to get up in the morning, so being called a moonboot usually implies a more sober view on what to do next than is appreciated.
    • Someday book
The book of families in Lux and their history that the 1st then 2nd and now 3rd mayor has promised to some day write down and make official. Also a saying "I'll write it down in the Someday book" meaning that it is not something that is likely to happen while you are standing around waiting for it.
    • Catherding (no not like that - say it again)
The work of the mayor, or something to do under a catmoon so you can brag about it in the Someday book.
(some of this might be PPDD and collisions with other player projects)
    Major events:
    • Daedalusion Days
The once a month full week market festival. A time when entertainers and traders from all over Novia travel to Lux to show off their skills and their wares. The Pilgrims' Nest fills with the sights and sounds of travellers and pilgrims.
The name comes from these days lasting through the nights as well and the moonlights effect on pilgrims and residents alike.
The week always culminate in some big special event on the weekend.
    • Edelfest
A time to cheer for everything and everyone in barrel after barrel of bier. Local tradition also have public duels and tournaments of "slapfest" where two challengers strip down to their briefs and fistfight (first to touch ground, no weapons, no magic, no armor). It's also that time of year to hide all the cats since the big dogshow and dograce will be in town. This absence of cats usually coincide with a massive influx of birds.
    • Lairdunk festival
A very old tradition where the peace of the oracle ceases for one day, so residents and pacifists alike will hide or stay away for that day. (If technically possible, PvP will be ON that one day). That day all willing and able are divided up into two sides who form up in two "lairs" on either end of town. Then the mayor or patron let go of the scapegoat (an animal) in the middle of town. From then on it is 'anything goes' to get the scapegoat into the other sides lair for a "lairdunk".
Afterwards victors and participants alike go to the Thermae for recuperation and refreshments which usually last long into the morning when peace reigns once more.
    • Orders of Old
Or the OoO, pronounced like wind blowing through the chimney on cold evenings. A weekend of dark tales about sinister things of the past. ...or present. Where locals and pilgrims alike take turns in telling stories to make none want to turn to sleep without the good comfort of an empty decanter.
    • Baskethunts
Every now and then the mayor, the patron and the council of Lux, will sneak out and hide baskets with gifts in all the strangest places around town. Then they declare a baskethunt which anyone can join. These will not be announced ahead of time.
(Work in progress and more to come pending Portalarium design decisions and reveals of the Novia timeline)
*there will be books printed by Lux Sanctuary with legends and history to come, this is but a short summary*

Lux is a cliff side community built around an ancient thermal bath house (the Thermae Lux). The Thermae itself is rumored to have been built around a thermal well created by a shardfall. During the centuries it has been the retreat and hermitage for those who could risk the journey and afford its pleasures. In the era of the Obsidian Empire it was conquered and rebuilt twice, then used by the order for the leisure of the higher ranks. At the height of the empire Lux expanded rapidly and encompassed most of the cliff and the hills around it. Some structures even remain from this era though locals rather talks about something else. Most notable of these remnants are the Short Road and the Short Bridge.

After the fall of the empire Lux was almost completely abandoned with the exception of a few of the old families (first citizens). The surrounding areas became rural again but the inner wall was maintained for protection. It is not until recently that adventuring companies again roamed the mountains and rediscovered the magic of the baths that Lux has become to prosper again. One such company made a significant contribution nearly a century ago, when Lux became the temporary outpost of the now famous United Strongholds adventuring company. It is at this time that Lux gained the nickname Sanctuary by locals and pilgrims alike since with the feats and deeds of adventurers the surroundings became tamed once again. It was also these adventuring companies that lay in a petition to the lords of the land to again establish rule to this remote location, which was how the Patron of Lux was appointed. As fate would have it the Patron's grandson is still Patron over this area.

...more to come when we have more information about Novias history from Portalarium...

___Lux Sanctuary - Town Meta Info

All info below is PPDD (Pending Portalarium Design Decisions), so DLMB, or rather - it's all wishful thinking until the fairy godmothers DarkStarr & RichardGarriott descends and sprinkles us all with fairydust to make us 'real little boys and girls' and make our dreams come true...

Please note that I'm using spoiler tags below for ease of use since it is a lot of text, not because of actual game spoilers. If there had been a expand/collapse function in BBCode I would have used that instead.
So be warned; down there, in the spoilers, there might be massive wall-of-texts *shudders* only someone truly brave would dare to face those unprepared.

The feeling for Lux Sanctuary, is that of a place with a long and rich history but which had its golden years centuries ago. Then in the last two generations it has once again started to blossom. So a thriving clustered town in the midst of a landscape sprinkled with ancient ruins.
The settlements whole new economy is focused on attracting pilgrims/visitors and have them stay with us as guests for a while, either through just dropping by, using our guest houses or lending a lot. Lux attracts visitors by providing a fun relaxing haven away from home, but also through having regular scheduled events, tours, activities and games.
Not all residents will be a part of this new economy, most 'just live here' and some of it is still agricultural. However the focus of the town will affect everyone if only indirectly.
Since it would be tiring to always have special events etc every week, we are planning on concentrating as much of them as possible to one week a month. During these Daedalusian Days the whole Pilgrims' Nest will be reserved for events and their hosts. During these days we will have nightly and dayly events to cover US and EU time zones.
Ordinary weeks will still feature some events and spelunking tours etc but these will be smaller in scope, and more focused on entertaining the Pilgrims' Nest guests.
For our resident traders who want more action between Daedalusian Days we are setting up trade agreements with other towns to have travelling markets, to keep the a high focus for your vendors etc.
The governing of Lux is threefold
    • The Mayor (this is the player owning the town, details below)
The owner of most of the land in the region. He is from a lowborn upstart family. Sometimes he even acts like he is important but he has no real power over the town.
    • The Patron (this is the knight living in the Inner Crest town lot)
The Sire is highborn and the appointed protector of the region, commander of the guards and rules over Lux. (From an RP point of view).
    • The council of Lux (anyone who wants to help out or who likes to plan events)
The masters and members that run everyday life in the town, hold our traditions high and helps with activities and events.
Everyone is welcome whatever your playing style.
The conceptual idea is that the Pilgrims' Nest lots (~1/3 of total) will be available to place deed-and-house on so you can have all your stuff here while you stay with us. You need to notify and book ahead though and there might be a waiting list for Pilgrims on the Lux Website. Depending on the waiting list, every fortnight or so we will clear the Pilgrims' Nest lots for new visitors.
We we will also have guesthouses to rent your own room and hostel dormatories to stay a bit more communaly. We want everyone regardless of ingame wealth to feel that they can stay a while.
But more details will follow when Portalarium sorts out the technical details closer to the release.
Travelling events are especially welcome. Want to bring a circus, a zoo, a tournament, a market, a play, a POT embassy, etc, we are up for it all! If you are planning to do such things ingame please let us know what lot sizes you'd need etc.(Again PPDD lot allocation and distribution in the player town templates).
If you want to run something unanounced then just use the Pilgrim application, book a lot like everyone else, show up and run what you want.
    *cheers*
Everyone is welcome, PvP or PVE, RP or non-RP, with or without deeds, with or without guilds and with or without friends. (Well the last bit we hope to remedy). The only thing we don't tolerate is intolerance (and thus griefers).
We are looking for residents, citizens, lodgers and dwellers. See the *recruitment poster*. Please go to the Lux Website and use the Join Us application for residents.
More details in the Lux lore and FAQ below.
If you represent a guild/town/company that might want to have a house in town and be apart of its history, then contact me directly.
Lux Sanctuary is not a military focused settlement. But there are some defenses.
    • There is the Inner Wall surrounding the Inner Crest.
    • There are the guards (NPCs) under the command of the Patron.
    • There will also be adventuring companies for hire and guilds in the town acting as a potential town militia.
But mostly Lux has remained free and relatively unscathed for the last century due to its many benefactors and pilgrims. When the Novian knights or barons and sometimes even a duke or two come for some recuperation they have traditionally taken their hosts for hunting forays into the mountains clearing out any local bandits or dangers.
*Work in progress* (This is just a placeholder until we get more info PPDD).
Follow the Short road up the mountain, and you can't miss it. Well unless you instead took the High road, and if so you are possibly lost in which case you might want to hide and wait for darkness and look for the lights from Lux, we do not recommend lighting a big campfire in the mountains, it tends to attract unwanted attention.
Well to be honest, as you might know nowadays travelling into the mountains without a large escort or an experienced guide is inadvisable. We also recommend that you camp in the plateu before the high rise up into the mountains, so that you are only one brisk day's travel from our gates.
As you come closer up the slopes to the cliffside take your time to inspect the ruins of the old sprawling Lux from it's golden days, these will give you time to reflect on the history of the empire and its decline.
The first district of Lux Sanctuary that you will see and enter will be the Pilgrims' Nest, this sprawling community is well known for its hospitality and that it is mostly for visitors and pilgrims with very few permanent residents. Some of the grand villas with the greatest views are booked by the lords and ladies of the land sometimes months in advance for major festivites.
The second district to visit will be the Bridge Market, where the Short bridge is a feat of engineering with an amazing view over the valley and canyon. Around the market square is the Inner Crest district with its characteristic dense housing and tight alleys serving as a contrast to the spacious surroundings of the mountains.
Then comes the sight that everyone travels this far to experience for themselves - the Thermae bath house. What usually strikes first time visitors is that it is like a community of its own. There is so much going on surrounding the atrium that it can be quite overwhelming. But if you step through it you will find that inside the Thermae serenity awaits.
    *Work in progress*
(Work in progress & pending Portalarium design decisions)
Lux Sanctuary has a lot of sights to see
    • The Thermae bath
    • The Bridge Market
    • The Short Bridge
    • Atrium with Crafters' Corner
    • The restaurant at the end of the fall
    • The ruins in the Outer Crest
    • The midnight moon
    • Black alley, the mining industry center
    • Spelunking tours outside of town in the scenic surroundings
    (pending Portalarium design decisions)
    • Inner Crest (inside the wall on the cliff)
    • Outer Crest (the fields and farms outside the wall)
    • Bridge Market (market square with vendors on the sides)
    • Pilgrims' Nest (area for visiting pilgrims, guests and events)
    • Downside (the fields and farms below the cliff)
    • The high road (the old derelict road going the long way down the mountain through farmland)
    (pending Portalarium template etc)
To get the right feeling of a cramped urban settlement we are going for smaller lots.
Lot Sizes (Hamlet right now - will grow proportionally depending on interest)
    row 60
    village 14
    town 2
    Types
Crest (urban residents) - 32 row, 5 village and 1 town (for the patron).
Farms and Fields (rural residents) - 8 row, 3 village.
Pilgrims' Nest (visitors) - 20 row, 4 village, 1 town.
Thermae - 2 village (this is the public bath & atrium with open court and crafters' corner)

    ___Lux Sanctuary - FAQ
Please note that I'm using spoiler tags below for ease of use, not because of actual game spoilers. So click on any question you'd like to know the 'answer' to.
In the FAQ we use the following abbreviations:

POT = Player Owned Town (and if you are trying to smoke my town you'd better bring an army...in which case we would welcome you all into town and ask you to heat up the sauna with all of those torches.)

PPDD = Pending Portalarium Design Decisions (the caveat that any grandios/stupid ideas of ours that isn't realized is really not our fault and should instead be blamed on @DarkStarr chaos...)

WiP = Work in Progress (poor excuse for things currently going in the Someday book)
    ___General info
Middle aged male gamer like most SotA early backers, so the epitome of genius, besserwisser, nerd. Got work and family so I know I will not have time for any full weekend crawls, but rather an hour here and there to put into this kind of game. So I thought about how I could contribute to the fun and have some myself along the way.

I could have gone the route of a crafter/guild assistant or somesuch but when the opportunity of POTs opened up I thought this would fit nicely. If I could make a welcoming and nice place that was more casual, relaxed and not as hardcore on expectations etc. Then I'd bet I could bring others of a similar mindset and/or situation in and help make a community that could have a positive effect ingame as well as to the metagame.

I also thought that that seemed like money better spent than getting some more bling for myself. This is why I'll not make money demands on residents, I see this as money spent on having fun, not as some investment to get my money's worth, or a way to get me ahead in some sort of competition vs everyone else.
Since I'm an oldschool gamer nerd I actually enjoy most of what SotA will offer, I'm easy that way. I like PvP and PvE both, but in different ways. I like crafting and trading. I get a kick of the metagame that organizing events, guilds and player-towns bring. I partake in carefree grinding, roll playing and role playing. I'm up for it all, except griefing, I like to share fun - not ruin it.

And I love the old Ultima series, heck I grew up with those. First games where I not only wanted the game copy, but also coveted the box was Ultima V and VI (and then Civilization).

So this is one of the major reasons why I'd love to bring all kinds of players together in one community - I'd like to participate in all aspects of the game. So I'd like to have neighbors, guildmates and friends to join when looking for sharing some fun in the game, regardless of which style they or I might fancy that day.

(I'm the same way with boardgames, I enjoy good game design whether it's WiF or ASL all the way to Diplomacy and back to Ticket-to-ride or Small-World).
Primarily for practical reasons, like seperating my character's economy from the town's economy since I don't really see the towns stuff as mine but rather as all residents'. But it also makes better sense for the place to have an account with the same name in the forums and if anyone wants to trade/gift with the town but doesn't know/care who is the owner.

Secondarily for RP reasons, I wanted to have an account for the spirit of the town.

Tertiarily but maybe most importantly, having an extra account enables me to play with my wife.
First, trust should be earned not given freely. So in any mmo (or SMO) like this you shouldn't trust anyone until you have measured them up Mary Poppins style. Check out my posts, posting style and attitude. You might even want to talk to me or play with me first ;)... Then form your own opinion whether or not you should trust me.

But while on the topic of kicking people out. I'd rather skip the inevitable drama and have a more relaxed and casual approach from the beginning. So with less rules and no mandatory expectations I'm hoping that I wouldn't have to kick people out, but rather talk things through and solve things long before things get to that point. A POT owner who kicks people out regularly will soon be a very lonely POT owner.

Given that though, there are some stuff I would kick people out for. Anything that is illegal in the real world, harassment and account theft for instance. Then anything that breaks the rules and terms of service that Portalarium sets up, I don't want to get in trouble by association. There would also be some sort of ping system so if someone goes MIA or AWOL we could use the lot until they get back, or take it over if they don't.

Farming pink flamingos in the backyard wouldn't bother me one bit as long as I get a serving... But I'd draw the line at a garden filled with gammadion crosses, I want to promote inclusion not exclusion.
The nick dates back to '92 and has nothing to do with Ultima lore.
Now Lux Sanctuary will definately be neutral and cater to all.
Spoon is somewhat 'good' but thinks too much of either side is bad for business and he is a businessman at heart, so neither or both. (Oldschool chaotic good if you know your D&D trivia).
    ___Town info
PPDD, well it depends on how much lots and decoration will cost in gold when the game is launched, how much gold I can get my hands on early and the ideas from other residents. But the vision is a hub of all types of player activity concentrated to one spot next to the central market.

But it will probably start humble and grow much more elaborate with time. But our wish is getting as close to a real Thermae as possible. With maybe two neighboring village lots, one lot with the bath divided into seperate rooms and chambers preferably with a larger roofside pool and several inside tubs and private quarters in the basement, then one lot with an atrium area with a crafting corner, a dining/drinking area, and a training hall. If technically possible, access to interested people and participation then I'd love to expand with a bazaar and an amphi-theater next to the dining part.

Anything that adds to the social aspect of the place I'd be in favor of.

Right now Plan B as a starting point with what I've got myself might be a single village deed , with the communal atrium on top and the bath in the basement. Also if there are no pools or such at release I intend to decorate and cover so that the tubs won't look like ordinary tubs, but rather a more romanesque feel.

What I do know is that I have a village deed, house+basement and a bunch of tubs already and will consider more before launch depending on interest and input.
Details might be PPDD, but yes of course there will.
Since we are aiming to entertain lots of pilgrims and visitors there will be lots of trade opportunities.
Our biom alone (mountain) should let us have adjacent hexes with mountain resources and maybe a dungeon. So there are plans for mining, smelting and blacksmithing as a specialty - hence Black alley, but that depends on map placement and resources in nearby hexes.

But the best fit with Lux's primary concept is the luxury end trading, fun stuff and memorabilia, so if you are interested in something in that vein, please contact me. With us there is no demand to commit to any specifics, so its fine if you have some wild ideas but want to reserve judgement depending how things look like closer to or in the final release.

Now if it had been possible what I would have loved to see was a pranks store with something akin to Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, that would have been golden.
We will have three aspects here:
    • Visiting events will have a priority and depending on their needs we lend them space and housing. Some things will be small and other things will be big.
There will be RP events, tours, PvP tournaments, markets, holidays and more.
But to not spread them out too much, I'd like to concentrate several at the same time and thus need lots of lots for them.
    • Guesthouses, so that people can rent a room or stay in hostel dormatories. This will build gradually over time as we get gold for deeds and houses.
    • Pilgrims' Nest is mainly for people who want to stay a while with us and bring their house+deed with them while they do so and then leave after their visit. Maybe they normally live on the other side of the continent or even on another continent, maybe they are here to spelunk in nearby caves or maybe they are looking to harvest regional resources.

How it will work, short version; I will lock and unlock the lots. So this 1/3 will never be on the open market nor available for permanent residents.

This will of course only be advisable if you have a place to return to, like if you are normally a resident in another POT with a reserved lot or own duplicate deeds or similar. If you don't then I'd advice against this as you might lose your prefered location after a visit.

How it will work, long version; People who want to bring their house+deed, fill in a form with their game details on theLux Website and will be put on a waiting list of applications. We then check the waiting list and inform you when you can visit (taking into accounts wishes etc). Then when the time has come we add them to the lot list and notify them with which lot and such details. Then they 'simply' travel here, click the sign and place their house+deed from inventory. After which they stay with us in their own house and have fun with us. When the allocated time is up (I'm thinking about a fortnight or so depending on waiting list length), we remove their name from the lot list and add the next visitor from the queue, this will put their house+deed into their inventory so nothing is lost and they can go back to their regular lives. If there is no queue they are not removed from the lot list and are welcome to stay until there is.
PPDD, if we are allowed to join multiple guilds then this will most probably be handled through a temporary membership in the Pilgrims' Nest guild for easier handling.
PPDD and how soon after release we can set things up, but...

We will have guesthouses where you can rent rooms, those will not have a waiting list or anything like that. Just show up and see if there is something available.

We will also feature communal hostel dormatories so that beginners and other people with little ingame money can come and stay with us if they want. We will sort out the details of this closer to release but it will probably be handled through the waiting list and the permissions system.
Of course not. Everyone is welcome, the more the merrier. The best ideas usually come from people not too close to the source anyway.

So please post ideas and suggestions below or in the Pilgrims' Forum (you need to apply for Pilgrim status to post in the Pilgrims' Forum), or simply come by and visit and see if anyone is home, awake/not too hung over and talk to us.
Well, first and foremost because I did it myself and this is not my field of expertise. Then for the banner art, a bit of cheese works with the retreat feeling where I've seen worse IRL. While for the website it's due to the free enjin template.

So suggestions and/or help would be appreciated.
    ___Resident info
Inclusiveness and diversity. To me, any community becomes boring if it is too streamlined and everyone has the same groupthink. To me all the really successful guilds/towns that I've seen are successful specifically because they have a mixed varity of players each bringing something unique to make the whole greater.

So if we have too many of one type of player, there will be an active effort to recruit other types as well.
Go to the Lux Website and on the Join Us page fill in the Resident form.
Most players will not have nor will all want to have a deed-and-house so the majority of Lux' residents will be Lodgers and Dwellers. (See Jargon) .

PPDD and how soon we can set it up, but:
For those who want to rent rooms there will be guesthouses and citizens who want boarders, residents who have their own room are known as Lodgers.
For those who are beginners or for other reasons have little to no gold we will have communal dormatories in Lux, residents who live communally are known as Dwellers.
Then hopefully there will be guilds and guild houses that one could join.
If worst comes to worst you can always crash in my dungeon, uhm I mean, basement.
Go to the Lux Website and on the Join Us page fill in the Resident form.
PPDD, if we can join multiple guilds then you'll also get an invite from a Residents of Lux guild as well.
If you are into RP, then feel free to approach the mayor or RP personas ingame. (You'd still have to apply on the website, but then we'd know who you are).
Depending on our current mixture of players we might be looking for specific types, see the *recruitment poster*.
Of course, we even encourage that. Lux is a retreat away from whatever and a home-away-from-home, so having a "dual citizenship" is of no issue to us.
No hard feelings if you sign up and then want to live elsewhere.
If you have requested a lot please let us know on the Lux Website so that someone else could get it instead.

If you want to rescind your residency, fart in our general direction and not want to hear from us again, then please say so in person and/or on the Lux Website so that we can remove you from the lists, tablets, Someday books and erase any memories of your existance through an overconsumption of beverages.
Here is my current thinking PPDD:
I don't know if POTs will be in the lot-rush or not, if they are I will lock all Lux lots before that so that no one will come to us and be dissapointed when they realise it is player-owned.
I would recommend all potential Lux residents, even if you have been approved and have a reserved lot in Lux, to participate in the lot-rush and get as good a placement in NPC towns as possible. Maybe you might just want to take a good spot and make some quick gold selling the location?

Or maybe you want to see if you like it there and who is your neighbors etc. Then if you want to stay there - no hard feelings and good for you, just let us know and please come and visit us sometime and share a goblet or two and tell us tall tales about your new place.

But if you have tried it out and didn't like it, then come home to where you belong - with us in Lux Sanctuary.
    ___Joining the fun

Why that would be lovely. Either write something here or go to the Lux Website, join as a Pilgrim and let us know what you'd like to get involved in.
People who want to run some event and need a place to do it would be warmly welcomed to do so with us. I have some special ideas for spelunking tours and RP if someone wants to help with those.
Absolutely, go to the Lux Website and either apply to the Waiting List or for Pilgrim status.
Please also send a PM over the SotA forums to our GM general (probably @Spoon in the beginning) so that we might have some mutual fun.
That would be highly appreciated, there will be lots of sinks to fill to make the Thermae and public housing etc.
PPDD, but it's been said that all POTs will have gold donation boxes in their public space. So you can support any POT that you fancy that way after release.
If we got any such interest that would be amazing. Know what, if someone does that the mayor will match any gift to the town (up to a reasonable amount). You'd of course get on the fast list to any lot selection or such as long as we haven't promised it to someone else.
But please note that Lux is already fully funded and depending on interest and for as long as it's entertaining, the owner will probably continue putting some money into it, so if you don't have the money to spare then you probably shouldn't spend it on Lux, but if you do have it to spare then we would be grateful for any contributions.

Then any Hot Tubs or cats sent our way would certainly be appreciated by all, residents and pilgrims alike.
If so, use the Portalarium gift system and ask the user "Lux Sanctuary" to send you email details.

___Why are you still reading this? or miscellaneous FAQ

Yes, isn't there? I've also heard those rumors. *Whispers* I've even heard that there is a Daedalus cult in Lux, but you didn't hear it from me.

Not to say that there isn't Fire mages, Druids and sun worshipers living in Lux, just saying that the Thermae sometimes is locked during moonlit nights.

The only thing we seem to have a big lack of is those necromancers, seems they don't care too much for the humidity nor do their skeletons seem to stay away from the cliffs like sensible folks...
    Yes.

Well met, my dear Sir Asguard.

You are quite right. The restriction is the size of the lot, not the peerage of the Patron's family. I will notify the Lux Council that they should change the town crier's poster to something a bit more appropriate.

Our humble haven would of course be even more thrilled at the prospect if our dear Patron would have been bestowed an even higher title than the Knight Marshal.
This in recognition of the deeds done for the enhancement of the realm which we all know and retell.

I hope that mylord jests with me. A Patron would not have a job.

The Patron's domain is the defense of Lux and the areas surrounding it. Commander of the guard, and the forming of militias in times of need. To keep the Short Road in good repair and see that travelers can reach Lux. That is what the oath of vassalage says.

Mostly the need is for a role playing part, anything beyond that is bonus. Depending on who is interested and what they want to bring to the table, we will discuss details and ambitions.
Then Lux needs someone to put Spoon in his proper place so that he doesn't get hubris, being the mayor and all. (So it is also a counterbalance versus the owner).
Now a Patron might take up hobbies if the Patron is so inclined.

One such hobby would be, when the Patron feels like it, to open the festivals and wave to the cheering residents. Other hobbies could be leading forays into the mountains to defeat the dangers there, or maybe a diplomatic role versus other settlements?

    Happy hunting

Main serious question I was asking in that was "does that mean you have to be PVP"

I was mainly looking at NPC towns because I mainly play story and have no interest in PVP but your town does intrigue me

My dear Torniquet how delighted I am to see you again, and without any fresh scars?

The problem with a knight is that the oath of vassalage would only bring them a village deed, which would be a bit inadequate to fill the space of a town lot. Much like my scrawny figure in your armour it would not be the same.

While knights are truly welcome and might live next to the Patron the residents of Lux Sanctuary needs to look upon the largest lot in the Inner Crest and feel impressed, joyous and safe that such a mighty Patron protects them.
But I do agree that the knights keep is mighty impressive even if it only stands on a village lot.

For those we have much better plans, we need and welcome diversity.
    :D
    Well met Mike,

Yes the scribes said that most peers of the realm wouldn't stomach more than a dozen words at a time. So he suggested hiding most scrolls for those who like me find a pleasure in reading for readings sake.

Thank you mylord, it is a pleasure to serve.

I am told by the Lux Council that the system is already in place and that the scribes have been hired to handle any such request.

If you would but follow this guide here she will take you to them right now.
If you do not believe then my good Mata here can testify that she has already been there and back again...

Hi Mata, your request was a sweet gesture, I am now honored to call you a friend in the Lux Sanctuary paralell universe of Enjin.

    Did I forget anyone?

PVP is not required for the Patron. Role play, though is.;)
The town will be set to PVP:OFF.

We will from time to time role play the Patron sending out other players though. So the Patron would need to interact with PVPrs. So, again inclusiveness etc.
There is at least one PVP guild interested in setting up a branch for mercenaries in Lux, depending on where Portalarium places it.

My dear Torniquet, well of course you can decorate your lot as you wish, and if you would be so kind as to place the guillotine next to the market, then that would be very convenient for our poultry merchant. After the missis left him, and all his late nights with the tankard trying to forget that fact, he is shaking so much with the cleaver that I'm worried that he will lose all of his fingertips before the week is up.

Jatvardur old friend, there you are. How nice of you to pay us a visit.

Let's start discuss business over in the Atrium. As you know I have great plans in store for us.

Though you have to give me the name of your scribe, the layout of Lux Sanctuary's posters seems like he doesn't see the difference between a straight line and a signature.
