Complicated and misleading

My first experience with crafting has been really an annoyance.
I find it too complicated for no reason.
Well, at least, someone gave me a tip : 2ble click on a book/recipe to get all the items in the workshop.

Then, the system wasted my precious ore : i did exactly what i was told to craft an iron longsword hilt, and got a shortsword blade. I tried again, thinking i did something wrong, and got a second shortsword blade.

Could it be possible to have a confirmation of what will be the result of our craft, please ?
Until you make it more easy to tell what you are doing, when 2 different recipes take exactly the same components it will enable to make things properly.

Besides, the iron short blade is lableed "short iron sword hilt" but it does appear as a blade.

Problem is i'm not sure it's a bug.

But things turned to a nightmare when i tried to craft an iron sword.

At the smelter, i don't get a Longsword blade when placing the proper items, but "a Longsword blank"

If i place the proper items at the Blacksmith's to craft the Longsword and use that "LS blank" as blade, i cannot craft the sword.

Is it something i understand the wrong way, or a bug ?

I see iron lopngswords being for sale, so i suppose other players can craft them.

 

Yes it may be a bug. There were all kinds of crafting bugs since they put so much in and so quickly. Things were a bit rough some errors in recipes and such.
So never hesitate to report a bug even if you just think it is one. They will let you know. It will help so much with all that is on their minds. And welcome and hello fredlingue if I haven't met you before.

 

sword blanks must first be turned into sword blades. They are NOT the same thing. Though some may find it a tedious and unnecessary step. Put the blank on the blacksmithing station along with the smith's hammer. I believe that is the proper recipe.. to turn whatever blank into whatever blade / axe head or whatever.

 

I am currently attempting to make a short sword blade.

The components I am using at the BS table are:

1 Iron short sword blank

1 Smithing hammer

The craft button does not light up.

 

I've had bugs this release where I can't craft on a table, even with the correct components. If I log off and come back later, I can suddenly craft again.

I haven't been able to determine specific behavior to trigger the bug sadly.

 

I agree with the other poster this bug need to be reported.

I think i unintentionally crafted a shortsword blade (without the blank step) while attempting to create a longsword hilt at the smelter's (not clicking on the icon but placing components one by one).

 

@frdingue, yes I did that too. It is a little tricky and a step that is confusing. Good job figuring it out.

 

There other components that you need, at least according to the recipe I just looked at on the wiki.

 

Sounds like a few of the recipes are not correctly configured.

Also just ran into the same problem as enderandrew. I was going back and forth between smelting and smithing and it just stopped working. Logged out and back in fixed it.

i dont think its a bug, i think you misunderstood the crafting book

you need to make a "blank" first, the use the blank to make the blade

blanks are made at the smelting table and blades are made at the smithing table
