Yeah well...ok but: it seems rather impossible for me to ban a solo player from a PoT ;-)

This was one of the primary motivators moving me to upgrade from a Village to a Town; to have the capacity to provide those services I deem essential to service the needs of my intended community.
The choice of whether to moved into any given town is going to be highly individual with many factors to weigh. The availability of those services the inidivudual deems essential will be high among them.
I agree with Sir Frank. "The Game" is the single player campaign.
Pax Lair is a metropolis with a few attached smaller settlements. There are other similar town complexes planned. Pax Lair was chosen as the first to be implemented. What would make Pax Lair more essential to the game than any similar settlement of that type, or even a holdfast in which the owner has decided to be the only resident?

I am not sure how vendor or trainer is different... as long as POT content is available in NPC cities as well, I do not see much of issue.

    It was a random example.
But yes, i think there will be PoTs that will become more important than others.
Or are you going to tell me that all PoTs are equal?
That can't work. Bigger PoTs always can offer more NPC service.

"Equal" in what context... The context is essential to the answer.

The importance and function of the POTs will come down to its residents, and there are many interesting town owners with big plans and great ideas. I am looking forward to seeing Blakes main town, the BMC cities, Port Phoenix, Lux Sanctuary, Drachenfels, Island of Wonders and Radio City in particular.

I wouldn't even think it'd be a matter of size.

A bustling Crossroad Village, owned by an active governor, inhabited by a very creative guild, organizing fun and entertaining events, having a massive assembly line and crafting population, in a strategic place on the map will always "beat" a secluded City owned by an absent avatar, devoid of people with just a few professional AFKers.

The starting point may be similar, the chances balanced. But the outcome will always largely depend on what the POT will offer to the rest of the community.

I really hope devs do create content for POT. Like for example, I heard that there will be NPC raids that will attack POTs and disable vendors and kill town members.

I like this very much because it will cause the town members to pull together and fight for ther towns safety.

This will help create new friendships and bonds, which is what a community is supposed to do.

Well, that would make castles and keeps more than just decoration, wouldn't it?

While banks and trainers are not essential for a PoT, I'm not against a PoT owner choosing a bank, or newbie skill trainer, for one of their NPC choices. Anyone with a lot and a crafted chest has the bank equivalent, the newbie trainer will be pretty much useless in just a few months.

I see it more as a choice of short term convenience (having your pledge items near to hand at launch) vs long term utility (another NPC choice that will continue usefulness). More important the smaller the PoT?

I've thought about this subject being a holdfast owner. I'm going for more story line and history for the game for my town. As far as the bank is concerned I have chosen to get the blessing statue in favor of the bank.

I see housing as property storage with only a short distance to a bank at another town. The blessing statue is something that many people will want for the buff that it can give and that is something by itself that will draw a crowd when they already have storage somewhere else.

Its all a matter of opinion I think.

Also I am hoping that we will be allowed some upgrades on our PoTs later. Upgrades to the number of NPCs and such.

The R17 Postmortem gave me a lot of hope in that the Devs were talking about making the basic town and letting us as players place the lots and street signs and such on our time so it would free up time for them. I really think this is the best plan for everyone. There were even PoT owners wanting to decorate their towns like a house lot and Portalariums latest idea really fits in with all of these desires so possibly we might be able to get upgrades to our towns in the way of trainers, banks and those things we did not get with the initial cost of our PoT.

I would think that a town would grow or die as time goes on so why hold us back from getting more for our town regardless of the size?

One thing I loved about UO was that there were a few key places you could always go to socialise and trade like Brit bank. I really hope POT owners don't ruin this dynamic by insisting on having everything in their towns. I can see the benefit to them but it would ruin this key game dynamic for the rest of us. Don't ignore the social aspect of this game, it's what makes it fun and ultimately what keeps you coming back.

People will still hang out by "Brit" bank. People will probably also hang out by the banks in the POTs. The population will be large enough that POTs should thrive. The social aspect will be enhanced by POTS rather than decreased: players will band together along common lines. They will feel a part of something and therefore I think they will want to contribute something to the success of that town (which could be events).

i also think there will be more communities with towns clustering together than we've seen so far. so the overall outcome is more stuff to offer the individuals.
