This is an unofficial contest to showcase your musical talent, just an idea we came up with this morning in IRC.

Compose a track and link it here with a brief description of the inspiration and where you envision the track being played. (ie town, dungeon, combat, wilderness)

The entries will be posted to a poll for voting by the community.

    Rules:
The music must be composed entirely by yourself.
No copyrighted material may be used in the creation of the piece.

I'm totally game for this. As said in the chat, I've already gone through 3 different composition ideas that are inspired by SOTA. Back to the drawing board to make something that I feel is worthy. :)

Good stuff, I hope to as well but I still have nothing started *yikes* or at least in mind for this yet but should have soon.. After all, some of Ultima midi files were some of first things I started to play with back in the 90's...
Maybe somebody wants to collaborate also? If anybody want to share some rough ideas feel free to PM me..

@Darkblade I like this thread, and would like to also see if there can be some sourcing, or at the very least a community area for building and contributing to a Pool of FX/SOUND ideas (eg wav format)

At the moment I believe we're gaining interest in doing it before we throw a date on it.

Interesting sound you went with for that. Will be fun to hear the final product.

Now that we have a little more insight as to what Richard wants musically, I can start putting something feasible together. :)

Thx Mystic. Please feel free to contact me if you are into collaborating.

Some other themes I am currently working on are, crypt themes, villainy themes, eerie themes, funky themes etc. eg, nothing too nicety ATM.

    Hey folks,

Some songs that could potentially be adapted for use in SOTA.
The first is my most recent work and for me its a Study Room type song. I'm sure it could be used in many environments.

Glimmer of Light 11/28/13 Remix (This is the song I'm submitting for contest)

Latest version in high quality mp3 format,

    Potential Tavern song
https://soundcloud.com/omethebard/chickenscratch <This one I think has SOTA potential if reworked and finished. I think of it as a Tavern song. Its really chickenscratch and haven't put much time into it yet.

The following songs were my first and my goal is to rework them so that they are the same quality of my most recent song.
A few were written in an attempt to write music in the same vein as Ultima. Most of the following songs are from 2007ish
and even if some don't feel right for SOTA they may have underlying melodys that could be right.
Most of these will have a more cheesy and midi sound to them, I made them all using Reason 4.0 and they were my first songs
    back in 2007ish.

https://soundcloud.com/omethebard/oneday <Just listened to Ultima 3 campfire song and think this one has a similar style starting at 2:36 . Might be able to rework this one into
    something more fitting.
https://soundcloud.com/omethebard/promised-gift <Might have potential if reworked.
https://soundcloud.com/omethebard/seven <This one I think has a lot of Ultima vibe in it and I might redo it for submission.
https://soundcloud.com/omethebard/ahoy <This one I always felt would work good when Sailing in a game.

    https://soundcloud.com/omethebard/seven2
https://soundcloud.com/omethebard/truth-is-alive <This one I think has some melodys that have an Ultima vibe and I might try and totally redo it for a more SOTA sound and submit it.

    Joy:)

I really like the work, Sangit. What samples or synth did you use to get the orchestral effects? I come from an electronic music background and often find it hard to get pleasant sounding samples of orchestra instruments.

Ome, I've enjoyed each one of your tracks, though I think some are stronger than others. I agree with you about Truth is Alive, it has some potential if reworked, ie. the melody is memorable and catchy. Same question as with Sangit: What program or samples are you using?

Beautiful work, Ome. My favorite ones are the Tavern and the ones with the "Ultima vibe." In SotA I would like to hear songs with the flute instrument as I think those have a special Ultima vibe to theme. An example would be the the Trinsic theme of UO and the Forest theme of UO as well. I really hope that the essence of those melodies can be recaptured for SoTA. I also loved many of the themes of UIX.

Your theme, btw, sounds a little similiar to the YEW negative theme of U9.
