After a most unfortunate rift mishap, I found myself trapped, spinning between worlds in the ethereal plane. After an eternity of disorientation and isolation I was able to focus hard enough to tag along with another traveler using the rift to return to New Britannia!

Back to work without further ado, deCani Tour and Expedition has put together a pamphlet that is a tour, of sorts, of the history and evolution of Berans Reach, The Beran League and how/where The Bear Tavern (and several other guilds) fit into the whole thing...

The Bear Tavern focuses on community and fun. The guilds primary aim is to ensure that the tavern runs as it should fulfilling a number of vital tasks which keep both the beer and the ambiance flowing. Staffed by a small cadre of officers which form a governing council, the guild operates largely without the emphasis on rank and station.

With an increasing demand for close-knit guild housing as well as closer ties with some other guilds, The Bear Tavern set out to find some land..."The Player Owned City wasn't big enough for The Bear Tavern Guild, so at their request we've added the even bigger Player Owned Metropolis to the Add-On Store!"


The environs of Beran's Reach are urban, compact and frequently chaotic. The homes have sprung up to take advantage of every space within the vast defenses, creating a maze of streets and passages. The compact size of the city means that the poorest and the richest environs are but a stones throw away, intermingling all strata of society. Where these meet a vibrant range of shops and entertainments can be found, appealing to a diverse range of tastes.

Originally, the first Metropolis ever, Berans Reach has grown into a megaplex of seven connected metropolises and other sized towns.

The Beran League alliance has sprung from continued growth, adding more towns and guilds into the mix to take advantage of a common website, teamspeak, forum, in-game support framework.


The Beran League is an organisation encompassing a range of Towns, Guilds and Businesses with a mission to create an enduring union of Land Owners, Guilds and Businesses to promote, free dialogue, integrity and prosperity. To act as a force for good, to defend the lands from evil and to forge a bastion of hope in times of need.

The Metropolis of High Rock (within the Beran's Reach megaplex) is the heart of the Beran League government, utilizing the design that was originally Beran's Reach, but The League has member towns and guilds spread throughout the lands of New Britannia!

Concept sketch - The District of Victory Arena​

To all!

After a long and productive discussion with Portalarium, I can confirm that a number of districts comprising Beran's Reach will be in game and available as of Release 23! This is the culmination of over two and a half years of community work, so naturally more than a few of us are very excited.

In this release, we're due to see:

1) High Rock – The future Government district for The Beran League
2) Porth Mae – A run-down and largely disused port, rife with crime. Watch your step.
3) Fox Keep – A newly added multi-purpose zone.
4) Victory Arena – The future entertainment district for Beran's Reach.
5) Port Beran – The Reach's main port.

The current location is planned to be near the town of Northwood, in a relatively untouched part of the world. This will naturally evolve as the game takes shape, with Beran's Reach set in a prominent location with plenty of potential.

This will be a solid opportunity to test out some of our plans for the future. The aim is to build a living, breathing in-game community that will function as a working city. With 276,00 sq of space, we are throwing the doors open to provide EVERYONE with an opportunity to place a plot there and get involved. Whether you're interested in setting up a business, running your own entertainment venue (tavern anyone?) or simply looking for a home, then this is an opportunity for you (regardless of status or affiliation). Both individuals and groups (including entire guilds) are very welcome!

The process is simple. We've set up a signup thread to allow interested parties to put their name down for the plot size they'd like. We'll then use that as a guide and we'll do our best to fulfil the request as much as possible. After a day or so of getting people placed, we'll then enable the majority of remaining plots so that they can be claimed as desired. It's going to be hectic, however with a bit of organisation we're aiming to make this as painless as possible.

To confirm, there will be NO charge associated with plot allocation. Simply put your name down on the list, or, claim a plot once they come available. More POTs WILL be added in the near future (together with expansions), so we'll continue to update everyone via our forums and accommodate additional needs as we grow.

Quick update as I've been getting the same message a few times. No, you're not required to necessarily be a member of the League to live there. All are welcome.

 

Update - 11 October 2015. We're now currently preparing for the release of R23, where 5 districts will be made available. We're going to aim to populate at least one of these to a greater degree, with the intention of flowing into each district as we slowly expand. The current design for the district Metropolis of High Rock can be found here.

To make this happen, we've set up a system to issue out plots on a first come, first served basis. There's no charge or commitment, and we invite EVERYONE to get involved (regardless of affiliation). All you have to do is to post here, confirming the plot code that you'd like together with you EXACT character name. We'll then make a note of it and will issue the plot specifically to you when it's place. In order to find out which plots are available, have a look at our google sheet here to see which have and haven't been allocated.

If you are keen on getting a plot size which is no longer available, or if you'd like to bring with you a number of fellow players, please let me know. As stated above, we have the option to open up secondary sites as Beran's Reach naturally grows and so we'd be happy to accommodate you. Feel free to PM me direct for details.

These plots are freely available on a first come-first served basis. No cost, not charge. To request one, simply post here confirming the plot code you'd like (map here) together with your full in-game name. To all!

After a very nice introduction, I'm pleased to announce that our first district is ready to go! The government district of Beran's Reach, this is the first of 5 districts for this release, with a further 2 due to be added in next release. Located here near the future town of Northwood, we have made freely available ALL unclaimed plots for all members of the SOTA community, ranging from row to city plots. Over the next few days we'll be phasing in other districts with plots available to everyone, with space for individuals and groups alike.

To claim a plot, simply review the availability list here, using the above map for reference. Plots are available on a first come, first served basis, so get in quick if there's an area you fancy. If you have any specific needs, please feel free to contact myself, or, make use of our website for further details.

Interesting times ahead! This should be the start of something fun.

Well, all good things must come to an end.

In the past day or so, the core contributing members to Beran's Reach have chosen to leave the Guild and move on to to establish their own project. Both individuals have been stellar members of the community for a considerable length of time, two active faces that we'll sorely miss. We truly wish them every success for the future and we look forward to seeing what they produce.

Of course, there is a down side. As a consequnce, we no longer have the resources to build the Great City that we've worked so hard to attempt to put together. So, to use a well-known Tavern saying, it is with great sadness that we're calling 'last orders' and putting the plans for the ol' girl to rest. Despite the sadness, this has been a truly fun project to work on, one that arguably has put the mechanics of SOTA through its paces. It was certainly worth a shot aiming for such a lofty goal, and while we didn't quite make it, we've at the very least given it our all in the finest tradition of The Beran League community.

However, from the embers of Beran's Reach comes a new opportunity. Victory Arena, one of the last of the Beran's Reach districts remains standing, alongside the linked District of Fox Keep. Victory Arena will be rebuilt to become the home of The Bear Tavern, where it will maintain the standards of what we have attempted to achieve, a fair and welcoming settlement open to everyone. Both will continue to throw open their doors to everyone, regardless of allegiance, rank or station, where it will act as a sanctuary for those who need it. They will continue to be a vocal and active member of The Beran League, as well as the community as a whole, with The Bear Tavern keeping everyone stocked with only the finest of fermented vegetable products. We'll be spending the next few days figuring out our next steps, probably with a pie or several, pondering our next move. Best keep an eye out, you never know what might be coming around the corner.

Sometimes things like this work out for the best so that you can reposition and come out ahead. Don't let the spirit of the Tavern die.

Make no mistake, The Bear Tavern and The Beran League shall endure! As well we wish the same for our departed friends. We are very much raveled, at least as much as when we began this journey...

 

Unravel is such a strong word. I prefer to think of it as an opportunity to refine the vision.
