Immersion Breaking Jack O' Lantern Mask

+1 Pumpkin Mask. Please stop, I have children to send to college.

I'm starting to think these masks might be removed and anyone who bought one will have a very rare collectable. Imagine a year from now, ultra rare flaming pumpkin head mask, willing to trade for City Lot deed.

 

Pretty soon we will have trucker hats and baseball caps in the add-on store lol. I love the masks and add-ons, but some of it just reminds me of goofy second life stuff. I don't wanna feel like I'm at a EDM festival.

They could sell Mickey Mouse and Star Wars masks, clothes, armor and lightsabers in a coperation with Disney. This ad-cooperation could get SotA some extra money... We could buy the Millennium Falcon as a new house and the Death Star as POT...

 

If RG decided he would want something in the game, some people would disagree, but most people would accept it and not insult him and say he's against fun and is being the immersion police. But since other players are saying it, it gets really personal. That's how it goes.

 

Excuse me, I... Imma let you finish but Enemy Mine was the greatest movie of all time and it had mickey mouse references and wasn't immersion breaking.

 

Now I might be tempted to rant on for the express purpose of trying to make you spend more money on stuff you claim you don't want.

No where did i say anything with disrespect.. For every thought and concept there are those that are for it, and those that are against it. Personally I do not understand it but if someone wants to raid a farmers field and stick their head in a pumpkin.. all the power to them. They may just put a bucket on their head next.. Who am I to judge?

Those that do it for the sole intention to ruin someones RP and do so disrespectfully i would not agree with, all else... what harm is there?

 

I have absolutely no problem if someone wants to make belief this isn't a game and they are really a Royal Knight defending the realms against great evil.

I have very much a problem if someone tries to enforce their style of play and make it more important than my style of play.

The Developers create the world and give us the tools. We the players determine how we use these tools. Pumpkin masks are no more against the lore than alien ships, elves, murder, and countless other items already in game.

When fellow gamers try to dictate game play because they interpret something as game breaking due to "immersion" I find this severely offensive both in game and out.

Portalarium will hesitate releasing anything for fear of angering a few, loud, overly concerned members of the community. This will create a stale and boring game. Creativity is essential to the success of Shroud of the Avatar. Shroud is a game. I play games to have fun, not to recreate medieval times.

My way of play is just as important as anyone else's. Now please bring on R23 so I can dance around in a pumpkin head mask, mostly naked, while running through town shouting Pew, Pew, Pew.

 

If RG made the decision for the same reason would you find it offensive?

But in FPO you will still see the "creative" decorated player houses

 

but the houses are not actively being offensive. I can always say that that lot had a maelstrom come through and made it a mess.

 

So.. how does wanting a believable world infringe on your style of play? In order for the accusation to be true, the things people want have to actually affect you in-game. I'm wondering how wanting something you don't care about does that?

Oddly, the only item listed that does seem out of place here is the pumpkin masks. (Though we wouldn't expect ships to be flying around every day)

Except we're not talking gameplay here. Pumpkin masks do not provide any game play. It's a visual only. It does nothing but sit there. Even as a tool it offers very little. A creative player might find good use of one in a play but what else can be achieved with it that it can be called an addition to gameplay? If it's just wearing it around it's really nothing more than a hat and we already have a lot of those.. so what's new?

If that were true we wouldn't be having this discussion.

What's creative about regurgitating Earth holidays in a medieval/fantasy setting on another world? And if you don't want to play in that setting then what are you doing here?

Given you said earlier you weren't going to buy any of these before I somehow doubt this represents your play style.

On a side note: The observant amongst us may have noticed that I never said Portalarium shouldn't make or sell this stuff. I only expressed my personal dislike for it.

 

How are pumpkin masks more "immersion breaking" than a flaming horsehead or a coconut bra? The coconut bra is even wearable by male avatars.

Why no outcry over those and numerous other items? Why the harmless pumpkin mask?

 

Single Player Mode. Just saying. .

 

All i did is defend the ones who think immersion is important.
