I've not posted this in the bug section because the laptop I've gathered this data on is below the minimum specs. However I don't think the issues I highlight are due to lack of resources (this laptop was able to run the game before the upgrade to Unity 5), more likely some incompatible shader which it may be possible to turn off for low spec machines.

Note this is with the (old) radeon driver, not the experimental amdgpu one (currently has no support for MULLINS AFAIK).

Yeah it's a bit of a mess. This wiki page is actually pretty good at explaining, probably more than you wish to know..see the 4th and 5th paragraph for some motivations to develop open source GPU drivers.

Also see here and here, quoting from the amd part of the latter:
TL;DR version: Intel open source GPU support has been excellent for quite a while already, both in terms of direct participation and hardware documentation, whereas AMD/NVIDIA not so much but gradually improving - as of now the open driver development for both is still too dependent on reverse engineering. Vulkan might bring some extra hope to further opening up the drivers.

It's possible this is related to the shaders being used here not being implemented yet. I'm on a 5870m but can't currently get into Shroud because the game launches in a black screen (Steam) or just crashes after launcher (standalone client).

Ouch. There are some bloom problems on the Mac and the framerate isn't great, but I'm only playing on a 750m so, i'm not expecting wonders. At least it's better than that.
