Where are all of these HOB cabinets coming from?

And why is everyone selling two of them at a time? Was there a huge giveaway that I wasn't aware of?

In the future, it would be really cool if something like a "rare" cabinet would have numbers on them, so you could tell where they came from. Like was this in the original batch of a few hundred that were made? Or was this in the Hobloth events after that?

I wish we could keep rare things rare.

 

It wasn't in the HoBLotH events that I'm aware of (I don't have one! . I know there were several add-on versions that were apparently sold during the Telethon event, and seems like folks are putting them up now.

 

Does that cabinet do anything special; or is it just a cool rare vanity item with a bit of animation added? I've tossed the idea around about trying to find one, but I'm still confused as to what its purpose is.

 

It doesn't do anything special (yet).

But it is a cool item since it's a part of the history of the game, and since it's limited in quantity.

I bought two of them and both players I did so from were players who had been around since the beginning but had just recently started playing and taking part in the forums.

They are pretty cool, though .

 

You can use them for storage. I just wish it would stay open to display the pretty bottles. I love colored baubles.

 

There was a large number sold by an external market site - I have no idea where they all originated to go to that market site, and then I think someone has re-listed the ones they bought using other accounts and account names.

The ones that come in "pairs" I think are sometimes from Dragons who took part in that initial telethon and also attended one of the HoBLotH's. If it says 25$ value it was from the telethon, if it says 0$ value it was the HoBLotH, the 0$ one is always from 2014 and the 25$ one always from 2013.

I don't know that the HoBLotH was the reason the 0$ ones were made, or if they were simply given to the original host of the telethon who decided to distribute them as something special at the HoBLotH but they were only made the once and not again since. The HoBLotH ones make up a little less than 1/4 of the cabinets.

The cabinets in general kinda tanked in value when shroudmarket dumped a whole bunch of them into the market at once, I don't know where they came from initially.

Totally agree with you - they used to stay open they were far prettier that way and I hope we can persuade them to bring that back.

 

HOB cabinets were given out twice that I am aware of as I had 2 of them. First was for pledging during the original telethon of the avatar and the second was attending the Hobloth II event in Austin. I am not sure of any were given for recent Hobloth III or any other event.

 

I know a few were sold because people walking away from the game sold their accounts and add-ons.
I put mine up for sale once I realized I was not going to play online, and had no use for them offline.
One sold and one did not.
I suppose I can put it in the ruins of Dead Horse as a monument of sorts.

They are still rare. The thing is people have been selling them and then they in turn are resold over and over again. Circulation of the same ones. You could purchase them during the first telethon.

 

The bulk of these were created for HoBLotH II, the associated telethon, and an idea that RusticDragon helped to come up with.

There are only 215 of these items in total with no more planned to be created. The perception is coming up it looks like because of a few selling these and the word getting around about them doing so. These are certainly still rare and have been for quite some time.

 

And pretty cool items, too! Not that I would spend the price of a village lot deed for a cabinet.. despite my squirelly item hoarding tendencies. Wish I had gotten my hands on one of these when they were new.

 

Thanks for clearing that up. Because there seem to be more and more people selling multiples of these it does seem like there are more than 215 in circulation. Knowing that number helps quite a bit!
