We just issued a small series of bans today for players knowingly exploiting the game. A reminder that the game is now in a persistent live state, so we may be issuing further bans if you are caught knowingly using an exploit, as well as not reporting it immediately to us.

Please report all exploits to us via support@portalarium.com. Do NOT post exploits in the forums!

Additional examples that will be cause for immediate and permanent ban from the game are:
    • Gold/item generation via automated systems (BOTing, increasing spawn rates, etc.)
    • Generate accelerated experience (Ex.: Instant max skills, etc.)
    • Working around gameplay (Flying through barriers, reducing damage, etc.)
    • Edit client memory (change character stats, increase skills)
For further guidelines on what actions may be bannable offenses, please read the Community Rules & Guidelines.

If you have concerns as to whether your actions may be flagged as exploiting the game, please PM Berek, one of the other devs, or contact us at support@portalarium.com. We are more than happy to clarify our policies for specific actions.

Thanks everyone for working with us to ensure the game is fair for all!

I hope these are life time bans. People that abuse these games are not doing it on accident, they don't care about their fellow players.

I've never exploited a game in my life.

Nor have I. Love this thread.

I won't be surprised to hear one day that this becomes a full time job and that Port hires someone specifically for investigations and bans.

@BDF, These bans were 72 hour and all of their gains from the 'sploit were removed. More serious sploits could receive lifetime bans. This was a "Wee, I found a bug that lets me get a bunch of exps... so now I'm going to do it 200 times and not report it!!" thing. If it had been a legit hack or something that impacted others play experience directly we would probably have gone for a full ban. Oh, and the issue was fixed server side to not give rewards.

Ok. Whatever you guys fixed may have also created some unexpected issues with death magic.

Good....Games can be ruined within the first few days if serious exploits aren't caught.....AoC comes to mind....

I asked you guys how you felt about zero day exploits during the telethon lol, you guys read the question above it so I know you saw.

This is probably only the first exploit found, kept quite and then deployed on opening days.

To bad the fools that got caught weren't smarter and waited a few months and done it in a way not to draw attention. Those are the ones Im worried about.

Don't worry, in 72 hours they'll have another shot at it. :(

Glad to know exploiting is being addressed. Here's an idea: Why not create a locked thread that lists the names and guild affiliations of anyone who is caught exploiting? This kind of shame can be a real deterrent, and I know it's done in RL all the time. My hometown publishes convicted criminals and their offenses in the local paper.

Stores post the pictures and checks of people who steal and also write bad checks as a way to shame.. its totally legal and a huge deterrent. I agree with Tinman, shame is a great deterrent.

as a matter of fact, put it on the log in screen daily, a list of who is banned and how long.. with their Guild tags if any

Good idea, except it would violate their own terms of service against revealing "P.P.I." regarding their customers.

That's a bit much. We do try to screen people who join our guild but it's mostly impossible to know how a person really behaves without a lot of exposure to each other.

Since we can only know someone is going to offend after the fact, this practice would have the effect of reducing the warm welcome and chance taking guilds do in having new people join.

Not only that but people could target a guild with an alt account to smear its name.
