When the housing in alpha turns into online persistent placement (in order of pledge level), does this mean that the houses will be the same and never get wiped even after official release?

They wanted to share it with the community first, so they don't get any beef about it and forum-whiplash.

    I should think not.
I expect everything resets to default between alpha and beta, and definitely between beta and live. When the game goes live, things have to start from a clean slate, it can hardly work any other way.

2 days of game access seems very harsh to me. Or did I get that wrong in the dates ?

maybe we could double that to 2 x 2 days with a week in between or something ?

so we can start dreaming about really playtesting the game for more than 2 days in a row in March.

I can understand the limited access for the metrics to be in manageable size, but limiting access to only 2 days limits the total playerbase able to login and concentrates the influence of a few playing that 2 days "straight".

DarkStarr, will you guys be considering extended beta game play once most of the bugs are worked out (post Release 4)?

think of all the data to analyze, Mounds upon mounds. 48 hours worth of statistics from upwards of 20k people. :/

To me, it sounds like the dates are for estimated release dates, not a limitation, but Starr did say in the text that access is going to be limited to a few days or something, *thinks hard about what was read instead of going back a page*

It's buried a little in the pre-text, but it's there...

I'm guessing alpha beta will result in longer testing, especially near the end. Perhaps even 24x7. I wouldn't expect any of that in beta alpha.

[Edit: sorry, swapped alpha and beta.]

Game launches, even tests like this, never EVER go as planned. They could get it up quite easily without a hitch, or it could barely be up that first day. It is not a good idea to take vacation or play hookie.............many mmo gamers have been burned in the past. Because of this, it only creates anger when the devs miss their time window, so my guess is they will keep it vague.

Thanks for the schedule Starr, this is great.
I can't wait to get in there and start working on those npc's conversation skills. :D

One thing this makes me curious about is the pledge schedule, around when will the funding period truly be over and high level pledges no longer made available?

Thank you for posting this schedule so I can plan my weekends around it. :)

I assume that the date spans provided are the estimated start and end dates for each testing phase, is that correct? Or are they estimated start dates, with testing going up until the next release?

I'm soooo happy this is great news!
I'm glad I'll get the oportunity to playtest and give some valuable input along with other like minded individuals.

Finally something worth looking at in the Forums.
I haven't posted anything in a long time, because frankly I couldn't get a word in edgewise, with all the harrasment from some forum hogs and rather rude people trying to force their opinions sown others throats. You know who you are.
Just saying I'm not trying to start something.

Excellent! I'm looking forward to checking out and putting some stress on the 1st public round of Lum's conversation system. Will his NPC's also know the lyrics to 'Careless Whisper' (or other equivalent Easter Eggs)?

    Thanks for the news!

    1. Will we be able to download the client a few days before a test?
    2. Whenever the time does come, can you please post/announce in big letters, "This Is The Last Wipe!"?
    3. I have not done much alpha/beta testing, would it be possible to have a.....Beta Testing 101 video from Chris? Can the parrots co-host?
    4. Can we have a scavenger hunt for bugs?

    Thx :)

    This is fantastic news!!

But be warned, Devoid and all other PvP-ers! I have spent one (yes one) week trialling UO. With this extensive experience I now know how to:
    1) Leave all my valuable stuff at home or in a safe place
    2) Run away very fast!!:D

So catch me if you can - I'm the nice guy just minding my own business:rolleyes:
