I wanted to share a version of Iolo's Baron of Eastmarch (Karelia's Song) that I put together. This is not being used for the soundtrack or anything - I just wanted to share.

    Enjoy!

Awesome, I really like it. Just listened to it twice in a row, great stuff. Also, where did you get that flute voice? I love it.

Thanks all for the kind words.

Thanks, Kailef. The flute is from Forest Kingdom II and, if memory serves, it is the Native American Kiowa Flute.

Onyx, I tell you what: Holt Ironfell basically taught me how to use a DAW and write music from scratch. He did a good enough job that I ended up writing more songs for SotA than any of the other composers. (Although I personally think most of the other composers wrote better songs than I did. Mine are pretty simple by comparison) Still, it proves that if you want to learn to write music, you can.

I was a drummer beforehand but had no real experience writing music. If you're interested in learning that sort of thing, a number of the Poets' Circle members would most likely be happy to tutor you. I think Holt is a bit busy these days but Richard Daskas does tutoring over the Internet, and if I remember right he's got a master's degree in music. I haven't asked him, but I suspect Santa Clause (Peter Boiko) might also be interested in doing tutoring.

    Thanks much Frederick and Onyx!

I would be happy to give some pointers if you wanted to start getting into music. There is a bunch of free software to be had out there that you can do a lot with to get started - lots of VST stuff and free software that comes with magazines for PCs and Garage Band is really good to start off with if you're a mac user.

If you don't have much music background, it's probably easier to start off using MIDI and audio loops and learning how to use the software and how to edit and then you can slowly start creating your own parts.

I write based on theory a lot but, if you have a good ear and good timing/rhythm, you don't need to know much to write.

I just moved so I am quite busy as well getting settled and working on other projects that need to get finished but hope to have more free time to get in game and do more music projects after the holidays.
