We wanted to let you know that some of the poor performance issues, such as hitching and lag, may be attributed to a limit of 8GB or less of main system memory.

While 8GB is our minimum system requirement, those of you who have 12GB or more of system memory should not be experiencing nearly as many of these performance issues.

We realize that many players will only have systems of 8GB, which is a fairly standard amount found in laptops and many low or mid-range desktops. We are continually working to improve memory performance in order to ensure 8GB of memory does not cause undue problems playing the game. By extension, performance improvements are being looked at with other hardware components, such as how much video memory the game uses.

If you have any questions on what parts of your computer may be a bottleneck for smooth gameplay experience, please let us know. We are happy to help identify them!

Glad to hear that, Berek o_O In addition to the occasional lag (which you mentioned), I am not sure if my very long loading times for each scene (several minutes at least...:() is due to the 8 GB of memory or my slow DSL connection (FIOS not available in my area.)

To be fair, according to Steam's hardware survey per November 2016 less than 22% of gaming machines have more than 8GB.

The implicit advice is valid, however, as the Sota client will currently quite happily sit on 10.5 of my 16GB.

I have 8GB of ram and can confirm that this release has been the hardest to date. Every 5-10 minutes the game has a hard CTD. Last release - no problems at all.

Have not had a chance to log in this release but I am one of those 8GB folks, with (gasp, dare I say it) DSL. Yeah it has always been a trial to play. Will find some time to dabble around and see how bad it is over the holidays.

@Berek so... the only solution is upgrade to more RAM? what??? watchdogs 2 min is 6GB and it looks much better than SotA... can't you guys work on it further to reduce it... thanks..

Don't most video cards come with 8GB of ram now?

GTA V with it's amazing graphics only needs 4GB min ram... I'm sure the devs in Portalarium are as talanted if not even more talented than the devs working on these triple aaa titles... you guys can squeeze even lesser ram use from SotA... I'm sure you guys can do it...

Of course not, that was just an awareness of what is currently a potential roadblock in your particular system, especially while we're still in development and memory usage isn't perfectly refined.

Hmm, memory doesn't seem to be my problem. I have 16 gigs of memory + a SSD drive + a 6 core processor (3.5 GHZ each core). I still have hitches and lock ups and crashes. It has happened ever since the reticle system was added to the game. Never crashed before that (probably not the cause).

    @Berek

    Couple of observational things:

    1. I have 64GB Ram on a 6700K @ 4.0 GHz with a GTX980TI Kingpin with 6GB DDR5
I still see hitching and lag, though it was less prevalent after R35 and R36 (like in Celestis), but increased slightly with R37.
Lag, though certainly can occur for sure with a lower end CPU (and if caching RAM to the HDD), is more a network issue on higher end machines.

    2. For the Minimum Specs page on the website; possibly a good idea to either remove the AMD related specs or asterisk them indicating the issues they have with the engine?

    Just food for thought

Memory is definitely my problem - getting worse by the day..... Oh hang on, we're talking about RAM, not what's in the old noggin...

Mutters and goes back to finding stuff that I know I put somewhere....

And i am getting hitching all over the place :p

Memory probably won't be a catch all though. I only have 8 gigs of ram and typically had decent performance and only had lag, hitching, and other stuttering issues in heavy player populated areas or after several hours of continuous play. I recently upgraded from an nvidia 570 to a 1080 and the game (so far) has flawless performance (and I still have 8 gigs of ram). I didn't even realize the degree of poor performance I was getting until I experienced the upgrade. In my case, at least, my major bottleneck seemed to be graphics processing/ram rather than system ram.

I now have 24 GB ram (from 8GB). I experience zero change in performance. Just for reference.

I now have a new system with:-
    Intel i-7700k skylake
    64GB DDR4 ram
    258 GB SSD M.2
    1TB SSD M.2
    GTX 1060Ti 8GB
I am experiencing lag and loading issues, and for the life of me cannot work it out.

You need to have the memory, video card AND a sufficient level of seedinvestment. Oh, come on it had to be said. ;)
