Have this in my bank and curious about what it does and how.. I believe it was given to remove skills... Can some one explain how to use it and what it will do?

I haven't tried it but I believe it'll reset one skill, returning 90% of the experience you spent on that skill to your pool. I don't think that it will drop the skill lower than what is needed for any skills below it though.

Unfortunately it hasn't worked for me. Tried to untrain a 2nd level blade skill (20 points) and the option to untrain wouldn't appear. I'd like to know how it works too

You can't untrain a skill lower than what is required for the skills below it.

These were the blade skills I was trying to untrain - just to be clear. I have no other blade skills other than those in the picture.

You won't be able to lower those, even if you have no skills trained below them. If they were above 40 then you would be able to untrain them to 40 but not lower.

[edit] Getting a skill to 40 only takes like 4k experience and 20 only takes around 1k, so just leave them and don't worry about it.

I think skills never go under the number that is required to unlock the next skill.
No matte you have unlocked it or not, so 20 is the maximum it can fallback.

I would only use it if the skill is above 60. When it is in your inventory, go to the skills screen K, right click on the skill and pick instant unlearn.

A box will pop up and say how much you will get back. Pick yes or no to move forward.

Is it a one time use or endless?

One time. It is a consumable.
Then you have to purchase new ones from the crown merchants.

It costs three crowns from the merchant next to the bank in Ardoris.

Loved using it on skinning meticulous collection. Worked well.

Thank you for the question here, and the responses. I have updated the text on the item itself for the next release. Great job, team!

Is it going to become something other than a scroll? If not it could be renamed to Obsidian Scroll of Unlearning since that's what it seems to be. Obsidian Item is a bit strange.

We'll see where it all ends up, the "Item" is likely an interim term. We changed it to solve the last name it had, "Potion", because while it carried that name it didn't act like one. We might be heading down the same path with the word "Scroll". (I had a scroll icon available at the time we went from "Potion" to "Item", so that is what I used)

For finality we should find a term that is not loaded with systemic overtones. I like "Token" at the moment, but I've been fickle on this one over time.

    @Chaox

From Update #191 for release 33
    • Obsidian Book of Unlearning: Players can now purchase a magical book from Obsidian Crown merchants that can reduce a skill down to the minimum level and recover 90% of the experience points used to level it (these are returned to your experience pool so they can be used to level other skills). We are giving each player one of these books as part of the changes to taming in case they want to reclaim some of the experience spent on taming.

I noticed this was called an item of unlearning myself and was going to make a bug report. I'm relatively certain it used to even look like a book in your inventory with the SotA shield on it instead of looking like a scroll.

Obsidian Shard of Unlearning? Icon is a small obsidian shard. Hold it to your head and poof it unlearns something. Works with the lore of shards disrupting things.

Aha, it was a book, not a potion! I think that was one of the options to change it to that never made it live and I backed out to "Item".

(Looking at Perforce history I see that "Book" became "Potion" on December 6, and then December 13 it became "Item")

I like that a lot. I will advocate that position.
