A public test server is really needed. Since there's no real information out there and no where to see builds. It would be so helpful to test it out before spending the weeks it takes to build it.

That's exactly why I don't play this game alone. I don't want to grind exp for weeks to make a char that I end up not liking. Again, with no information out there other than the forums to get an idea if it would work or not. So I only play SotA right now when I have friends in skype playing too. Then I'm just mindlessly grinding as we just bullshit.

I do try to be fair in my criticism so I'll point out that with a little gold you can book of unlearning a few skills and just reapply it elsewhere. Exp earned is never wasted. Sometimes it's simply misallocated ;)

If a skill is found to do far more damage than another skill or go easy past it's intended effect (think ice field slowing me by 97% for minutes) should they just leave it?

I was just about to complain that you lose 50% of your exp. But after searching the forums, I was told wrong. I guess it's only 10%. I was under the impression you lose half if you put the arrow down and half with a book, but the book is better because it puts the points back into your pool right away, therefore you learn new skills faster by having a larger pool.

Sara that is because you have no water resistance/attunement, granted you are pure blades and thats your right, to play how you wish, which is why i suggested that seperate tree for resistances :)

I have said before im all for balance, but where does it end? A person chooses a tree or combat style because thats how they enjoy the game, only to be metaphorically kicked in the nads because people find it overpowered and complain. , when in fact it only seems that way because they have spent time in a tree and the opponent has no protection against it.

To need to skill whole trees only for protection is dull.

I wont do it and stay away from pvp.
    It's just lame

The book drops the skill instantly and you get 90% of the experience back.

[edit] I didn't get to finish what I was writing earlier. If you set the skill to Unlearning (red down arrows) it will go down a little with every other skill use and you only get 50% of the experience back (unless it's a skill that's being "adjusted" and the devs set it so that you get 100% back). Also, you can only unlearn a skill to the minimum required for skills below it, so if a skill below the one you're trying to unlearn requires that skill to be at least 40 then you can't unlearn it to less than 40.

So like i was bored and had like 30 mil pool to fck with so I made a death mage, bought exceptional 2/2 armor and fancy wands, shoved my *** ring on and.... You know what. No one can argue with me past this point that Death mages arent OP

Anything beyond is just trying to save your Flavor. I am acutally sickened to find first hand how OP this build is and I want to say to the hard core defenders, you are not helping progress this game at all and it worries me a lot, regarding the future of honest feedback, for honest patching.
If the atunement didint provide me with resist in pvp, I would buy obsidian books and unlearn all this.

I've only just started picking up a Death tree.....but I guess I'm a death knight really...since its built around my blades tree. I really haven't seen the OP that everyone is clamoring about.....yet. I'm surely not high enough level to solo a boss or anything. I would agree that if you can solo a 10,000 hp boss, than any skill must be way OP, but that is only if a 10,000 hp boss remains the upper limit of bosses. I have seen other skills able to solo such bosses and have always thought that it was OP........specifically the Bow tree. Maybe the only reason we are discovering what we perceive as OP is because many people have finely tuned the skill and are adapting it to the scenes where it is most beneficial. As another player mentioned, it surely won't help much against undead. While in Deep Ravenswood I quickly discovered that the Banish Undead spell being utilized by one particular person appeared to be so OP, the person would just come up to my "kill" and wipe it out with two shots...loot it....and run off to the next. Not only did it appear so friggin OP ......the person was so brazen enough to be completely rude about it. Yet, it is one example of adapting a skill to a most beneficial scene, but we all must agree that not all skills are OP in all scenes. I could go on with many examples but I think the most important thing to realize is I don't imagine the bosses and mobs we are seeing in game are the upper limit of what will be introduced in the future and if they "nerf" the skills we think are OP, just imagine how UnderPowered we will be against 20,000 hp bosses? So give it time!

Indeed. These boss's we have now, if we can solo with a build, we can solo with a build, it should be quite possible. Allowing us to do this in the first place then taking it away whenever a build, and there's more than one than can do it, Bows, Melee, Death, even life is op is certain situations, means those players just get peeved as all their hard work and specialising in skills is then useless as they have to go back to 0ne shotting greens. These boss's we see now, all players should be able to relatively solo by the time they get to a high level (100+), this is an RPG and once new lands and new mobs and boss's are released (should have been adding to them not nerfing players and boosting the present ones), we again go back to being underpowered and have to raise skills and learn new ways of beating them. Some boss's should never be soloable really but 3 out of 4 for each new area/expansion should be i think with hard work & specialization by all builds with a bit of cross specialisation.

I've been death for awhile, and even only partially there at 120ish attunement with both weapons doing +20% death ray, I don't see it growing from where I am into something "Lol OP".

My kill/xp rate in sequenna collossus (which I've always found to be a disappointment in the XP rate to be honest vs say Deep Ravenswood undead where death magic won't even work) didn't change going from 100% sword to heavy death with corresponding gear changes.

I cant believe this thread is still going hehe.

I said before ill say it again.
Death is obviously strong right now. It's not just because some players are weak against it. It's also not the only thing that needs balancing. Go make a new character and the death mage build. Go make a new archer or blade fighter and run the general build. Death levels up significantly faster, struggles less and generally feels stronger. It does have the draw back of doing almost nothing to undead. True. But overall it does feel stronger then the other builds, and the numbers that show up in DMG and sustain seem to support that.

Theres a ton of imbalences in SOTA right now, denying that is just silly. Is all of death OP ? nah, it just needs looking at, just like everything else.
Does it feel stronger then most other things in PVP right now? Yes. But a lot of that is also because people dont defend agaisnt it properly. That doesnt change the fact that overall Exp devoted to exp devoted.. death gets you the most bang for your buck in the overall game. ( A good portion of this could be accounted for it being more SOLO based, then group benifitial.. and SOTA is currently very SOLO friendly.)

I think the break downs always need to be .. X amount of exp devoted. X amount of DPS/Survivability/Group Benifit .. and match up the totals to other trees. (or maybe more topics then that) but looked at overall. Either some other things need to be scaled up, or death needs to be toned down.

But that goes with the polearms need love.. bludgon needs love.. moon is weak.. some spells got over nerfed.. etc etc etc..
Deaths no different then all the other skills being unpolished in one way or another. lol

Currently I am tanking all 4 Cabalist when they spawn and killing them solo with death magic. I'll take all the money I can farm, but Is this really cool?

My 2c is that certain builds are better for certain things. That being said, there are equal builds to so called Death God Mode, and there are builds that do better in certain circumstances. You can kite and kill 4 cabalists solo with 2 different fire spells and never get hit, but it doesn't make fire OP. You can solo a daemon or troll in under 4 or 5 minutes with a bow or a sword and never get hit but good luck aiming for that time period with death. Those are just a couple instances I can think of off the top of my head but I'm sure there are tons throughout the game. As someone built with nearly 80s in every tree, I find there is beginning to be a sense of balance. Even in PvP you can effectively nerf a 200+ attunement death mage to the point of being mostly useless, and not even need to use death to win. I think people just need to start stepping outside their comfort zones more often, build more outside the box, and give those builds a chance. A death mage is kinda meh against someone with high air attunement, dex, and high death/magic resistance.

Also, I have 221 death attunement. All the life drains in the world can't save me against getting 2-3 shot against an earth mage that popped a shield of air at the right time. Right @Corp Por ? :p

In regards to all the different builds, and people getting upset when things are tweaked (nerfed) or changed, should remember the game has not gone commercial yet. We are still testers, still continuing to test the game before commercial release. Nothing is set in stone, and for those that grind and grind and grind to build a certain type of avatar must always remember things can and will change. My humble opinion, we shouldn't get upset when things change. For example the stone arrow spell. @valor congrats on your success, I'll be taking some death magic to kill some of those high level mobs.
