Why are download speeds so slow?

    This was the issue that I fixed in R40. All downloads should be fast unless throttled due to connection problems relating to us using the torrent protocol. Some colleges and shared connections supposedly throttle connections they think are torrents.

    There is no server, there is only Bittorrent.

    Because the game is in development and that sometimes leads to issues where we have to collectively figure out what's wrong.

    Is anyone actually seeing slow downloads now? I'm trying to look into this but not seeing any issues. Not sure if it is because it was just a sudden rush that fixed itself or if there is still a less obvious problem.

    FIXED. Try it now. The torrent tracker seemed to be having some issues and was restarted.

    I'm just glad you took at look at the torrent tracker. I think I was getting impatient with people trying to get me to try other things for the download. While I do appreciate the pointers and find people extremely helpful in general, by the same token, I felt like my concern that something was goofed up on your end was being dismissed. Thank you for *not* dismissing my concerns and the concerns of the OP. I've been around long enough to know that 100kbps for the client download is not right, especially over a nearly 48 hour period of time.

    Downloading now 5.3 gigs in 14 mins on Steam!
    First time in months I have played this game, I hope it's got better?

    Yes, I've heard from others that Steam is much faster than the client. I'm just happy that downloading using the client was fixed today. 5mbps is better than 110kbps...:cool:

    Maybe you could schedule an automatic tracker restart every month or so, perhaps right before QA starts so that it would still be "okay" when patch day hits.
