Got a quest sending me to 'midras ruins' and it seems to be PvP (gets a warning when checks it)

The ruins themselves are a PVP scene, however you do not need to go into them to complete the quest. You can instead travel into the underground tunnels and enter the Crypt of the Avatar from there.

If a tree falls in a PvP zone and no one is there to hear it. Is it really PvP?

@curt there is barely someone who will attack you, but it's a principled ask of course. I for myself don't like it.

You can like Browncoat Jayson already postet circumvent it by enter Kiln - Kiln Cisterns (Tomb on the Way to the center of the Town) - get a Key from i guess the Water Elementals drop iirc - Midmaer Passage - Crypt of the Avatar.

Another solution you may have not considered.
Go there in "Single Player Mode". No one will kill you since you are the only one there.

I didn't think that worked? Aren't all these zones forced multiplayer pvp?

But as mentioned, for the purposes of this quest there is an underground route in.

On the occasions I have been there, there's no-one else around anyway. And that reflects the current state of the game - not much PvP going on anyway, except for the few juggernauts who like it.

I myself have flagged for PvP lately, and am enjoying the XP bonus. I have only been jumped once (Deep Ravenswood) and actually managed to win that one!!!!! (If I get killed, I'll pay the ransom)

So even though it is nominally a PvP zone, your chances of getting jumped are pretty small. I get that you may object on principle, and respect that - in this case as has been pointed out there is another way in. Or just run to the ruins, find the hatch, and jump in.

Is it explicitely said that we can also travel through the PvE-ghetto underground tunnels or do we have to guess this ourselves?

    That's unfortunately ooc knowledge :(

It says explore Midras Ruins, may it should say, find the Crypt of the Avatar in Midmaer and let all Midmaer NPC give some hints like:
"There is a Secret Hatch in Midras Ruins, but there is also a hidden way through some Cisterns i heard of."
You then can decide if you search the Ruins or search for any Cisterns in Midmaers Scenes /Cities.

Yes you really have to use your brain to solve that riddle and do some exploration.
Wait, isn't that what you always wanted from the quests ;-)?

There should at least be some hint that there is another route. If there isn't why should someone think that there is another way?
Many players will think that this is the only way, wander to Midras Ruines, get ganked and quit the game.

If someone quits the game over a gank, he should ;) There is another way... and a little bit of brain should be expected not to make it too dull for the average guy.

I find myself agreeing with @Gildor2
But more on principal than anything else.
So i have to agree as well that there should be a hint that there is another way.

This is problematic for me. There are a LOT of PvP-centric games out there, I think SotA's appeal will be to a broader playerbase, with PvP as an included feature.

With that in mind, any quest that funnels unsuspecting players into a PvP zone should perhaps have some dialogue hinting at another way. Since quests are still being worked on, this may already be in the works.

I tend to look online for quest information if something is unclear, or ask in-game, but people don't always do that.

And as for ""ganking"" a new player following a PvE storyline quest -- shouldn't even be possible, much less celebrated.

The Dev named Sannio was supposed to add another way to get the key, but it seems that has not happened yet.
