I've been watching the damage that I take from mages, melee and archers...

Archers are WAY too OP. They put out two to three times more damage then their mage and melee counterparts.

Yep, it's terrible, a couple of archers can take you down pretty quick. I have found that using my shield deflection skill helps ameliorate some of the damage but it's still way to OP. Just always make sure you are in front of them, they can rip you to shreds from behind.

You are probably right. But I do not think this will last long. Currently if you start a new character you are pushed in the direction of "bow" as it is "optimized". I believe at the moment the developers are just fine tuning the bow skill. Unfair in pvp sure but that life in early access.

I always use avoidance glyphs for defense - glancing blow, fortify defense and shield of ice if needed.

It's physical though so Earth's embrace, defensive stance and armor resist help you. You can also line of sight it, cover it, and get higher ground.. if you keep changing spots you can keep an Archer AI running as long as it takes to kill him.

I think based on the number of tools to deal with it, it isn't OP from a balance perspective. I think melee is a little UP though

Getting some of these skills levelled makes a huge difference. Isn't there a glyph in the shield tree that helps out to?

There is the Dig In glyph and Redirection innate for avoidance.

Even using multiple of these tools I find that two or three archers is *significantly* (with extra emphasis) more challenging than two or three melee or mage foes in pretty much any combination. LOS/Cover can be hard to come by in some outdoors scenes, especially if you use ranged attacks yourself. LOS only buys you a second or two before they come running around a corner to get you, frequently in mines/tunnels one will even run past you meaning you take shots from two directions - one of which will be your back for extra pain. Higher ground can be effective if you are getting the jump on them, which can be tough given aggro radius. Otherwise, you'll just take damage to the back while trying to reach the higher ground.
