So @Baron Drocis Fondorlatos wrote he kills the Troll at Level 45.

I can attack a troll and stand his damage a while, but my strongest attack, ice arrow at 80 and some boni from the staff i use doesn't make any significatn damage to the Troll at Adv Level 70.

So i wonder how others kill the Troll!?!?

I saw mostly Archers Killing him, so about balance, how can it be that the damage output of some Weaponry is that much better?

and at Level 45 i woud suggest i wouldnt even hit the troll with whatever i have.

can't help - system is unbalanced as hell if things others write are true

maybe they're wearing crafted gear with lots of bonus or pluses... none of my gear has any bonus or pluses... just the most basic so I don't think I'll be able to kill a troll but I can run away from them... LOL :D

Actually I have no interest in killing the troll myself or even the Dragon.

I would rather our Bosses be more Group Play tough and epic like WOW bosses. Right now they are not Epic imo. Hopefully one day they will be. Epic doesn't mean that they only do the repetitive same crazy things over and over though and leave us confused the whole battle with little counters to
confuse spell. Hopefully the magical recipe to make them epic will be found.

I don't compare myself to others or even care to. I'm just here to have fun not to strive to be better than someone else or even competitive. So playing your character to the best of your abilities and being competitive is reason to play for some people especially for PVP players.

I want my character to be able to survive and play with others but I don't think I'm really competitive as much. Perhaps that is testosterone I am missing lol;) but anyway I know not the point of your thread but imo.

oops sorry was typing this on my phone which has it's own mind ;) *sighs* *edited*

Don't think it's about damage output, I think it's about he ability to hit and not get hit back.
    Ranged characters have this

    @Kabalyero i have +6 to +10 Gear my staff is +12

@majoria70 joria i also want the bosses to be more epic, its not about comparing me to others and i dont talk about the dragon yet, i dislike it by myself that others camp worldbosses like Dragons solo.
But this topic is not about that - i rather doubt this things will change, i also doubt we get specialisations become more important earlier in character development etc...
but again, this topic is not about that.

I do not strive, i am maybe less strong than you, cause i rarely fight with groups or grind xp etc. But i want to be competetive as i want to play my role in the world and if the Devs want us to have PvP i would like to be competetive someday.

This topic was opened because i recognized we got 2 Bridgetrolls at the pass to the Perennial Coast near Sawtooth Thicket. I tried to attack one, he is yellow to me, i am Level 72, just checked it to be clear about that.

If people claim its easy and killing the troll is something they did at Level 45, i wonder how or what i am missing - or what unbalance we have if people with Skill X and Equip Y can do it at Level 45, but a mage at 72 isnt even able to make a hit.

@ikickbutt i am tha Master of Kiting ;)

    Fake news.

    I'm still here.

Would take levels far higher and well beyond that of a mere mortal to finish me off.

    Yep.

The troll AI is unlike most of the other monsters in this game. There are animations that tell you when and how the troll will attack.

If you're a solo player, I would actually think that fighting at range would be more difficult because the troll picks up a rock and throws it at you for massive damage. But if you're fighting in pairs it's much easier.

Of course not all trolls are equal, some have far more hit points and power than others, however each uses the same animations and logic. Once you figure out what the tells are, it's challenging but not impossible to kill a troll when you're in your 40's.

Stay behind the troll in melee range and jump when he stomps the ground. Dead troll. BTW @Chris said archery does less dps then other melee specs, ranged just hits one target.

Its really about buffs. Watch my video of Krull, Im killing several ore con mobs that have even more hp then trolls.

    Especially:

    Glancing blow
    Fortify Defense
    Defensive Stance

I dont use them usually but ice shield and death shield can really help.

Then you need some focus management. 2 good foods, a harp of invigoration and stacking of attack spells.

dunno how its done at lvl 45 though, maybe bows and kiting.

    Are they different?
I tried the two at sawtooth thinked where you Circumvent the Passes (brightbone or east reach gap) to get to the perennial Coast, but i also tried the one in Nightshade Pass.

I just want to know what gamemechanic it is that i am missing.

And how others kill Trolls and what skills they need to level to which amount?!

Cause i think i am lacking making enough damage, but GM in Ice Arrow maybe wont make it, it's just 3 hits more or something like that.
Then what i have to do to make more damage. the Trolls damage can be kitet and healed, but i make a hit do some damage and the troll heals or regains more combat health than i can do damage.
I have somewhat around 500-600 atunement i would guess. 500+ in the tree and all my gear is + water and my Staff does extra damage for Ice Arrow.

So i wonder what i have to do.

@Stundorn I think you need a tank partner who can keep the troll occupied while you unleash the living hell at it :) Very far from your level alas otherwise I'd join you.

Just wanted to make sure you weren't talking about Torc D'awl the broken, he's a much stronger troll in Ravensmoor.

All the attacks are avoidable once you get the hang of it. You just need to be behind him when he attacks. When he does the stomp attack, it doesn't matter if you are behind him but you have to jump at the right time to avoid it. It's much easier to do in single player online than it is in multiplayer, because any lag will throw your timing off. I've been told the rock throw is avoidable with blink, but I've never figured it out. I just use healing when he hits me with a rock throw. He's big and dumb though, so if you stay behind him usually just keeps trying to kick or stomp on you and he doesn't throw many rocks.

Shoot me a message when you see me in game next time and we can meet up so I can try and show you.

Lets see there are as far as I can tell 4 different levels of trolls.

    Need more specifics.

And you have no idea what skills he is using or stuff he is wearing.

There is only one troll he really could be doing at level 45.

I bet it can be done with a very low level fire/life mage. You just need to get the dot's going and then concentrate on avoiding the attacks.

Wow, I hope they are not balancing using the total splash dmg. That would mean 1 on 1 a weapon that could only hit a single target like a bow, would out strip a weapon like a two handed sword that could possibly hit 3.

As people have said Trolls telegraph their moves. Melee characters can get in behind their legs, slightly offset, and the troll will constantly turn to try and face them (so keep moving). The challenge then is simply to avoid the stomps (which is still a challenge for me, but there you go). Some fire DOTs will help but they can also be a distraction (because you miss a jump when you're busy trying to cast something).

Ranged is also straightforward IMX, just circle the troll and keep shooting, eventually he'll be dead :) It seems it is possible to dodge the thrown rocks but I've not figured out if that's down to timing on my part or bugs.

Never tried a pure mage build personally.

Well splash damage has to be included in the balancing since a lot of combat in the game involves AOE and not just single target. He said the same tech talk that he didn't want to add more AOE skills to Ranged so other school will always have that advantage which is great for farming.

The trolls in this pass need a second pass. The way the encounters spawn you have to fight through a minimum of 2 troll encounters to get from one end of the pass to the other, sometimes 3. They can outrun you even using potion of the wolf and the coconuts so it is annoying for those of us who live out of Aldhaven. Especially since the troll encounter spawns close enough to the town to see you coming out of it. We don't get many visitors to our little town as it is and the pass was probably what gave us the little traffic we had. I imagine the lower level chars will now avoid the area...
