    Unlike Mara, who requires you to escort her to a private spot before obtaining her quest objective, Essen does not require this, even though he wants to talk to you about it in "private".

    Yes, but on the design itself, only Mara will actually make you to escort her :)

    You can do the Essen task two ways. One way, you're required to escort him, and the other way, you are not, even though he says he wants you to escort him. Mara was only referenced as a contrast, where she must always be escorted. Either Essen's dialogue is wrong (saying he needs to talk to you in private, when indeed he does not), or the quest is broken in that the escort should be required regardless in the order in which you talk to him (before or after the titan).
